Good thread, smart analysis, rings true.
Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive.

No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief.

1/ A 🧵 to explain his plan and how we fight back.

This is a bigger issue than people realize. Not just jobs lost. But their families losing benefits. Landlords losing tenants. Cities and towns losing revenue. This is how recessions start

Ready Fire Aim is no way to govern.
More accurate, fewer words;

"There are plenty of contractors going under".

A friend furloughed 75% of staff (furlough w/paying for health insurance for three months), 50% exec pay cut, 25% rest of staff to keep as many people w/salary.

PS: Wasn't 18F a government office, not a contractor.

I agree with Joe Biden that the wealthy billionaires need to pay their fair share of taxes and not take away services from the poor and give to the rich which Congress is planning to pass.

As I told The Guardian, purging the government of independent watchdogs and replacing them with loyalists threatens democracy. Lawsuits don’t phase him because he doesn’t pay the bills. We do.

What this long and detailed NYT piece calmly calls an “extraordinary flexing of power by a private individual” is in fact a blatantly unconstitutional usurpation of Congress’s Article I powers and delegation of the President’s Article II duties.

President Trump's lawless federal grant freeze attacks critical public services that we all depend on.

Their assault on civil society now threatens fire safety, school lunches, disaster relief, cancer research, law enforcement and more.

We will fight to resolve this constitutional crisis.
