Johnson is a weak, snivelling, self-serving hypocrite who got himself into a political jam of his own making. We had an an amendment to remove this provision in rules that his leadership blocked. Now that it's a political problem he's saying he wants to do what he didn't when he could.

BREAKING:

Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson doesn't feign / plead / state ignorance on issue bad for GOP.

Admits that Senate GOP corrupt self-serving move to put cash into their pockets as payment for legit, legal, necessary DOJ work is "bad optics".
Mike Johnson on Republican senators raiding tax dollars for their own pockets: "The optics of it are terrible. I don't think you should do it retroactively ... for sitting lawmakers to vote themselves an ability to cash in on something like that, to me it was just a really bad look."

Trump is demanding that GOP side with him over Epstein's victims, Rep Ansari tells me. She had a harrowing exchange with one victim who recounts how her mom had cancer and he exploited that.

Also note her mockery of network disclaimers on Trump. More like this, Ds:

Because once we get rid of Trump, we need to have laid the groundwork for reversing this, for saying, "remember when we could have nice things? Well, the way to get that back quickly is to fire the kidnappers and rehire the cancer scientists."

There's a lot we have not visualized in a useful way.

One of the big ones is the SHIFT in govt employment from "people who cure cancer" and "people who make sure your Social Security comes on time" and "people who care for veterans" to "people who kidnap your neighbors."

"Convenience, more than, say, environmentalism, is driving the boom. " - this is the key to unlocking it at scale. As well as the option of the second car replacement
This week I wrote about the rise of the e-bike dad - this piece was originally going to run alongside the story I did in September about the bike boom in general, and we didn't have space in print, but here it is:

Why would Congress ever agree to a budget that the President consistently refuses to execute?
This is far worse than anyone expected.

Trump's HUD plan would cut *two-thirds* of permanent housing and push as many as 170,000 formerly homeless people back onto the street—redirecting funds to work mandates, forced treatment, and encampment sweeps.

All as mass internment camps are being built.
