I'm happy and humbled to take on a new role with @rcsbpdb.bsky.social. I'll be continuing David Goodsell's work on the Molecule of the Month, starting with my first article on Assembly Line Polyketide Synthases! Check it out (animation included!)

I have been having fun turning the Mario Brothers into a 1940s industrial film using Veo 2.

25 years of beautiful illustrations of molecular mechanism - incredible. David Goodsell released this software - you can make your own images! ccsb.scripps.edu/illustrate/.

What could go wrong?
todays my birthday.

it’s also the day 16 years ago I discovered that a customer for the data center I worked at had racked 3 full cabinets with over $200k of brand new server hardware on top of $80 of canned soda from our customer lounge vending machine to avoid spending $600 on mounting rails

Today someone handed me a phone and a stranger said "Hello. How can I measure the distance between the N and C termini of a protein?"

Back in the Midwest for the holiday.

It's a good week for protein structure prediction in #SBGrid. #alphafold 3 inference went out today. That's a "use your own model" situation, registration required for download.
Fixes for AF2 for some newer GPUs went out. And we released Boltz-1 on Monday. Maybe I should go out of town more often...

Back in Boston after a fun week at #sc24. Thanks all for the great presentations and conversations.

That venue in Georgia is huge. Definitely got my steps in.

I’m not against encouraging young people to consider science as a career but I think we ought to be honest with them about how much time they’ll spend managing python environments

Machine learning meets protein structure refinement. Still in alpha but already surprisingly performant. Very cool

Another rainy day here in Atlanta, which is fine since I want to stay inside and talk about computers.

Snapped this the first night

Going into SBGrid now ...
Thrilled to announce Boltz-1, the first open-source and commercially available model to achieve AlphaFold3-level accuracy on biomolecular structure prediction! An exciting collaboration with Jeremy, Saro, and an amazing team at MIT and Genesis Therapeutics. A thread!
