Watching Dragon's Den. Pitch for an "AI" tool that predicts cooker hazards.

Deborah asks "Which AI platform are you using?"

Does she think it's doing with autocomplete?

Trump's economy is being held up by a massive AI bubble.

A recent study found that of 300 companies that owned generative AI tools, 95% reported zero return on their investments.

We will not entertain a bailout of these companies should this bubble pop.

Me: Maybe it's not so good 87% of us rely on GitHub for releases?

Them: Ah, but it's a distributed VCS. You can release from any copy that's in sync

Me: In sync with what?

Them: GitHub

Watching Blake's 7 series 2 again with the commentaries this time.

And quelle coincidence! Just received a Patreon video from @tobyhadoke.bsky.social about the recording of the commentaries. Looks like they had a lot of fun.

It's almost as if they were just a stepping stone to fascism and had no actual interest in running a county council.
🚨 BREAKING: Kent County Council is hurtling towards financial oblivion under Reform.

A shocking new council report reveals a projected budget black hole of £46.5 million for this year. The Reform Administration has completely lost control of our finances. 🔶

When I introduce mutation testing to teams on the Code Craft training workshop, it's invariably one of those "How did this not occur to us before?" moments.

"Is our code broken and we don't know it?" Let's break it and see if any of your tests fail.

If testing running software often involves asking "What's it *supposed* to do?", you may be leaving it a bit late. Some of us call that "specification".

I refer the honourable member to my previous statement about the people with the money not understanding... Er... Well, anything, by the looks of things.
These are not serious people.

What if... Now, hear me out on this... What if we made it so that the lion's share of a multi-trillion industry all relied on one specific version control host owned by a company not known for their exemplary commitment to reliability?

People reading TMZ articles out loud is like a whole genre on YouTube
Sometimes I glance at YouTube and there's a video about Doctor Who, Star Trek, etc., that's like "breaking news! a thing happened!"

And then instead of watching a 30 minute video I go and look for text-based sites that can tell me in three sentences what the thing that happened was.

A lot of employers will only invest in training their entry-level developers in code craft in the mistaken belief that their senior developers don't need it.

I have some bad news for you on that front.

“Our senior developers already know this stuff, Jason?”
I hear this very often from managers who’ll invest in training entry-level developers, but only entry-level. Do they, though? A large-scale study of developer activity in the IDE found that, …

Today's been a good Tuesday.

Morning spent with a pair working on continuous inspection tooling using TreeSitter. We rigged up a hook that emails people whenever someone declares a switch statement.

My suggestion that it gets CC'd to the letter's page of The Sunday Times was cruelly rejected.

Some of the people in this article have shared their recollections with me before - but on condition of anonymity. Coming forward now is an act of patriotism. Farage’s claim that it never happened is the opposite.

The Book of Jeffrey
I’d love for Trump to recall the exact book and verse in the Bible where this is mentioned. You know, since he’s just so familiar with its teachings.
President Trump spoke at the signing of his executive order about foster care on Thursday, sharing how the Bible instructs society to care for "vulnerable children and orphans"—and was quickly slammed for denying SNAP benefits to hungry kids just days before.

Client's asked for their December training and follow-up coaching to be pushed into next year, so I have slots in December, if anybody would like to give their dev team(s) a code craft vitamin shot before the year's out.

It's good , healthy fare :-)
