This reminds me of my first science fiction and fantasy convention where a white editor at one of the top publishers said to me, “Wow, you’re so articulate!”

Note: I’ve had white people say that to me many times. 😒 Racism has many faces (like the one in this photo). Trump needs to get some help.

The American right has to constantly spread vile lies about Europe because any American who sets foot in Europe instantly knows how conned we’ve been. It’s a much nicer place because Europeans spend more on social programs than bombs. America is the opposite and we suffer for it.

i'm watching a group of conservative law professors insist that there is a grand debate over birthright citizenship that somehow escaped generations of scholarship and only popped into existence after a right-wing president announced an effort to nullify the 14th amendment.

Now that they destroyed their own neighborhood, the Maga/Elon trolls are rolling in to BlueSky.

My recommendation is to block early, on the first offense, without explanation.

Here are my rules why I block them:

This is chilling. In September, as Elon Musk began buying Trump a presidency after Trump promised him a federal department he could use to destroy his enemies, Trump agents at the Heritage Foundation began filing FOIA requests to find anyone in government who had ever mentioned Musk in any document.

Etymology that's influential for my WIP rn:

The word for wilderness in Irish is fásach, stemming from fás, 'to grow'.

Add the prefix ua-, 'from', and you get uafás and uafásach. Horror and the horrible.

In Irish, there is something terrible about the things which come from unconstrained growth.

Yes. There's nothing inherently virtuous in a 'wide range of views' if they include idiotic nonsense. It's one of the ways populists (etc.) manipulate liberal sensibilities (the close cousin of 'I just want a debate' sealioning).

everybody knows deep down that "we need to give all perspectives a hearing" did not mean we should expect Dan Rather to interview swamp Maoists, and also that the claim the far right has to the table of decency in the US was bought, in this century as in the previous ones, with dollars and bullets
It’s not an echo chamber we just don’t accept hate speech and shitty right wing media. It’s really interesting to see how hard the pundit class is trying to claim that if you don’t accept far right and increasingly fascist viewpoint, you live in an echo chamber. This is a demonstrable lie.

"We have to meet them halfway!"
No, we don't and — more importantly — we can't.
The halfway point between truth and lies isn't some kind of common ground, a shared concession zone where reality applies only a little or just some of the time.
The halfway point between truth and lies is also lies.
"The moon is a lifeless mass of rock."
"No, I think the moon is made of delicious cheese on which merry lunar gnomes feast."
"That is absurd! The moon-"
"Shh-sh, you two. Enough of your divisiveness! Let's agree that the moon is made of a bitter gorgonzola which morose lunar gnomes eat reluctantly."
