re: "Parks are for families" - Chow makes it clear who is and isn't granted personhood in the eyes of the state. Dufferin Grove is a huge park that's continued to be used for all sorts of shit throughout this encampment's life. these policies boil down to the City not wanting homeless people visible

About today's public transit discourse: I believe that riding public transit is a spiritual good for increasing your empathy and practicing minding your own business. It also helps you internalize that most people mind their own business, e.g. no one is looking at you.

We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.

As I've been saying over and over on our book tour for The AI Con, the inevitability argument (including in the form of "AI is here to stay") is an attempt to steal our agency. We don't have to accept that and I encourage everyone to refuse it.

The way nobody can drive well anymore because of GPS — not just atrophied turn-by-turn navigation, but the way ppl no longer know the layouts of their town or the names of roads or what to do when the map doesn’t match the terrain — that’s what genAI is doing to communication skills and literacy

If all porn is made illegal, you can also make illegal the expression of any person you hate by defining them as obscene and pornographic.

"Existing while visibly trans" will be argued to be pornographic. Women dressing insufficiently modestly will be argued to be pornographic.
I don’t care if you hate porn. Please for the love of god don’t get stuck there cognitively.

Anti-porn legislation + how trans and NB people (even cis drag queens/kings) are being consistently described as sexually deviant = the groundwork is being laid for all queer expression to be made illegal.
Well, here we go. The GOP has just introduced a bill to effectively outlaw all pornography.

The bill dismantles the Supreme Court's Miller Test for obscenity, removing provisions that the content be patently offensive to community standards.

the thing teenage boys need to hear more than anything else is that it is actually okay if they don't grow up to be men at all. they don't have to feel invested in the political interests of men as a class, bc they dont have to BE men. it's okay if they grow up to be women, or something else :)

Anyone who has ever got delivery via bike should fight for safe lanes & infrastructure as a moral imperative. (Would love to see how many anti bike lane people also enjoy delivery)
Delivery people should be able to charge a weather surcharge. I think if you want someone to ride a bike through rain to bring you food you should have to pay through the nose for it.

One bright side to being forced to live in an AI slop tornado is now I see my artistic mistakes as incredibly endearing. The human machine of my body made that weird line. One of the most important things about EP Thompson's work that is not often noted is that he chronicles the absolute annihilation of English and Welsh working class and peasant culture. Literally nothing survived the industrial revolution - everything left is a partial Victorian revival.
I think one thing that people who aren't British often fail to understand, without wanting to draw a false equivalence, is that the first people the British colonised were the British, with our ruling class not even adopting the language for hundreds of years after conquest.
