@eeriknkross.bsky.social wrote a long post on X regarding international law, in case you missed that.
It's not all-encompassing and focuses on US international obligations but is a really good read on how even by US signing that plan alone international law would be violated.

It's also vastly easier and cheaper for media outlets to produce culture war content than policy stuff.

With policy, you have to find actual experts that are available and willing, then pray they're good entertaining communicators.

On culture shit, you start with a talking head and work backwards.
This chart (which applies even more to social media than it did to TV) lives in my head rent free.

Social media enveloping traditional media means everything and everyone is now competing in the entertainment market. Boring stuff like policy that affects millions of lives doesn’t stand a chance.

It's scarier than that, for is it not written in Revelation 6:12:

"I saw the Lamb open the sixth seal, there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black like sackcloth of goat hair, and the US executive branch was inconvenienced in its ability to tax American purchases from abroad on a whim."

If democracy and the rule of law are to survive then their fate needs to be carried by several great powers rather than just depending on a single hegemon that defines a unipolar order
don't care what anyone says, I'm glad I got to witness the unipolar order. to watch a country completely waste its hegemonic status? we will never see anything like it again

The Tomahawks were never going to Kyiv. Moscow will not get its new Yalta.

A Budapest summit will end as another loud diplomatic farting noise that doesn't help Zelensky, Orban or Putin.

A lot of people need to get used to how useless America will be in a post-American world

Words spoken many years ago that are just as relevant today.

We must continue the fight to get big money out of politics.

We have already entered the methane feedback doom loop. Probably the most important news item of the month. Which will generate almost no coverage in the media.
New evidence shows methane which is 25x more potent than CO₂, is leaking from cracks in Antarctica’s seafloor. As ice melts, massive hidden reservoirs may be releasing this “super pollutant,” accelerating warming.

America as the empire that memed itself to death
Empires decline all the time, for all kinds of reasons, but our present moment will be remembered in history books for the sheer volume of *voluntary & pointless self-imposed damage*. We're systematically dismantling what made us great, for no reason! Genuinely, with no rationale! It's wild.
