Born on this day in 1819, George Eliot. Here's my favourite bit from the greatest English novel - Eliot's concluding paean to Middlemarch's heroine, Dorothea (who, among other things worked to improve the housing of the local agricultural labourers). Here's to all the Dorotheas, past and present.

Have you seen winter bird yet? They eat seeds from the “dead” native plants. When you deadhead the flowers, you remove critical food sources for the birds. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼. I painted American Tree Sparrow with Stiff Goldenrod and Cup Plant. Aren’t they cute? #botanicalart #SciArt #birdsinart #naturalhistory

Are you feeling down? Look outside and listen to a little sparrow singing. . Sometimes the wind is too strong, but it keeps living its life . . . doing what it’s supposed to do . . .
Blessings to you all . . .

The awe inspiring Yerebatan Cistern, in Istanbul, was built by the Romans almost 1500 years ago and has an 80,000 ton storage capacity! 😮 🤩

Photo credits to my lovely friend, Sally Wilson, who visited Istanbul last week.

Tomorrow is a hugely important day.

At 4pm, the UK Covid-19 Inquiry will publish its report into the UK’s pandemic decision-making & political governance.

I dearly hope our political leaders & decision-makers will listen, learn &, above all, act on the findings.

Because there will be a next time.

My sister visited the pub this weekend and today she turned up with the framed drawing. The landlady said it was only on loan from the previous tenants (my folks!) and it was mine if I wanted it. All she asked for was a print of it in return. I haven’t seen this since I was 18 when we left the pub.
