Our ICB is looking to make more use of Brave AI. Is that something I should welcome, be wary of, both? I see that they are a not-for-profit, non Big Tech company, which sounds good to me. How AI is used in health services, rather than whether, seems to be the issue. @paulbernal.bsky.social

What is likely to be in the Government's new NHS Workforce strategy? What should be? Retention of existing staff, career progress from early on & training g in community, preventative & digital skills that the 10 yr plan calls for. Increasing the number of district nurses would be a good start.

The Home Secretary says "we have become the destination of choice in Europe, clearly visible to every people smuggler and would-be illegal migrant across the world"

That is a factually untrue claim: the Home Office shows that the UK is fifth, getting 1/10 claims, while Germany gets 1/5 claims

That sounds fascinating. When does the book come out, who is editing, who are your co-authors, editor, publishers?

Today’s To Do list includes writing a formal abstract and key words for my chapter in the first scholarly study of poet Frances Cornford, to be published by Brill Publishers next year, and drafting a short story to be published by Woman’s Weekly next year...

1970s better for me- because I was young. My eyes & ears & worked better then. On the other hand London transport far worse, As a junior doctor I had to work a 100 hr week. Torygrsph nostalgia then looked back to 1930s - hunger, unemployment or Jazz age. Young people & workers knew their place.
Ah the 1970s.

Stagflation, three day weeks, collapsing infrastructure. Civil War in Northern Ireland. In yer face racism and bigotry everywhere. Bin strikes. Strikes in general. Blackouts. Industrial decline. Wage inequality. Dog crap everywhere. And households spent 25% of their income on food.

Horrible for all migrants. Shameful and distressing for decent people from the 'host' nation too. Not sure if I count, none of my grandparents born here. Economic migrants. My parents from different diasporas met in London.
Exactly this. And every moment that passes with folks around me not condemning it or even acknowledging it, and the impact it has on any migrant, is noted
Note that every piece of anti-migrant propaganda I take personally. No, I’m not playing good immigrant, bad immigrant. This hate agenda is bad for ALL of us.

Over-sold. Experience of digital banking, for example doesn't encourage me to depend on digital unless it is there to support the human beings who are caring for me & can deal with passwords, holes in mobile coverage & AI hallucinations.

Digital is a problem more than a solution if it’s difficult to access, tricky to use, temperamental, rigid or non-inclusive.

Just started interviewing for the READY study, exploring the last year of life of people with learning disabilities. In early interviews, despite, or perhaps because, of the sensitivity of the subject, some bereaved people find talking & being heard liberating. www.readystudy.uk

A good book - not a text-book- about chemistry or biography of a chemist, that a twelve-year old might enjoy. Ideas please. @pwkidsbookshelf.bsky.social @paulbernal.bsky.social

Sorry, I know that’s a niche moan. 🙂

As long as they continue to ban cis- men from that particular women only space. A million years ago, when I was a school-girl, there were often groups of them trying to peer over the fence.
A transphobic pressure group is trying to ban trans women from Hampstead women’s pond – it's time to fight back.

HOPE not hate condemn the appalling, violent attack at a synagogue in Manchester which has taken place on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. Our thoughts are with the Jewish community and all affected.

I had no idea that members of the Jewish community carried out security duty like this.

Stay safe.

And we should rally round to protect them too. Nobody should be afraid of entering their place of worship.
My wife is supposed to be doing synagogue security duty on Saturday. It's terrifying.

People thinking that Reform's suggestions of getting rid of legal immigrants will fix the NHS have no idea how much it will hurt healthcare. Immigrants & children of immigrants keep the NHS functioning. Same with social care.

A maternity hospital should be a place of hope and new beginnings. Yet in Gaza, that hope is clouded by stress and uncertainty. Even amid an offensive, hospitals should be protected.

We call for an immediate end to the violence and for concrete measures to protect civilians.
