My reflex response too. But is the problem the technology itself or who is driving it & why? What are its limitations, how reliable is it; & what information is being harvested, by whom, for what purpose?

Thank you. I know Jane Firmin and knew Eugene Paykel. Blooming autocorrect keeps giving me his name as PayPal! I will buy a copy as soon as it comes out.

Why it's important for UK writers & readers to use the term Intellectual Disabilities in International publications. In the UK "learning disabilities" = Intellectual Disabilities. Elsewhere: the US, Australia & Vietnam for example, it refers to specific scholastic problems like dyslexia.

haven't they been selected to be wilfully ignorant too?

Maybe he can't help being stupid. He could help being wilfully ignorant & boasting about it. Wilful ignorance & refusal to hear those less ignorant than himself makes him even more dangerous than any President before him

You made me think of books about science or scientists that really worked for me as a teenager. The Radium Woman; The Microbe Hunters; The New Science of Strong Materials,& sequel, Structures, or why things don't fall down; Collins New Naturalist series. My grandson is 12 wonder what he could read.

We're keen to hear from family members or paid care/support staff who were close to someone with learning disabilities who died from causes other than cancer or dementia. www.readystudy.uk

The READY Study, funded by Marie Curie, is innovative, co-produced expert panels of people with learning disabilities, families, & paid carers. It uses interviews & on-line focus groups to look at points of change & opportunities for better communication.

Yes, it is a favourite "comfort read" though no doubt the science us out of date. I need to buy a new copy, mine is falling to bits.

Great blog by Athene Donald on how doing experiments at school can turn children on to science. Also, in passing, the joys of Nuffield Physics A Level & particularly the first module in which The New Science of Strong Materials was required reading.
