A can't miss conversation between two of the best out there in @hcrichardson.bsky.social and @pkrugman.bsky.social.

Also brb because we're all getting "left-leaning but scrupulously honest" tattoos.

Let’s break this down—because the gaslighting is wild:

📌Oct 2022 – Biden signs EO to cut drug prices

📌Jan 2025 – Trump takes office and kills Biden’s EO to cut drug prices

📌May 2025 – Trump signs his own EO to lower drug prices

Trump canceled Biden’s plan then brought it back w/his name on it.

On Thursday, I attended a Virtual program on "How to Talk About Class Divides and Why it Matters." Joan C. Williams, scholar on diversity and equity, spoke on how critical it is to choose our words carefully in order to build coalitions for progress. Thank you, Red Wine & Blue for sponsoring it!

I think it's possible that the country is already lost. Or that it could still, through years of effort by ordinary people, remembering who and what they love, every day, be won.

This uncertainty has no effect on my mantra:

We haven't got time for cynicism or despair. There are children here

A federal court just blocked Elon Musk from interfering with the federal government’s payments system.

There is power in fighting back. We won’t let up until this block is permanent.

Elon, et al. are out to privatize everything—as much as possible.

Why do you think that is?

As you consider your answer remember: Government finance prioritizes accountability & transparency, while private-sector finance focuses on profitability & shareholder value.

Who’s in this administration?
Losing NOAA would be devastating. Project 2025 authors want to get rid of it because it monitors climate change, and privatize the information it currently provides for free, so you'll have to buy information about the weather and the winds (imperative for mariners).
I have covered NOAA and it’s work for like 15 years and this is brutal. If you’re there and want to chat or share anything, signal is davelevitan.26

NEW: Someone at IRS just told me they were informed that if they accepted the Fork in the Road deferred resignation, they'd still have to work through May 15th because it's filing season.

So Musk lied. And what about filing season 2026? Are they just gonna cross that bridge when they come to it?

One impact of the NSF freeze: They fund the small nonprofit, EarthScope, that manages seismic and GPS stations used worldwide to detect and warn of earthquakes and navigate autonomous vehicles.

EarthScope can maybe make payroll this week. A prolonged freeze could see stations fail.
