It is wild that this is the finding of basically every iteration of this poll, large or small, going back years. At some point one would hope that this finding would move more centrist people towards making change, but …
Largest trans survey ever finds the top reason transgender people stop transitioning is transphobia

“In almost every single case, the reason was anti-trans discrimination in the form of pressure to ‘detransition’ from one’s family, friends, or community,” the survey found.

Here's something I post from time to time. My answer to a reader who asked me: what could journalists do NOW to break with some of their more corrosive habits.

The trans panic is just a rehash of old homophobic ideas, Exhibit A.

If you're cis, one thing I'd like to impart with regards to trans people is that you are being lied to on an almost unfathomable scale, from billionaires like Musk, to religious fundamentalist groups, to print and broadcast media, to entire governments, they're committed to spreading malinformation.
Literally this.

If you are a cis person, even if you are an expert in some field that affects trans people, and you *think* you know some facts about trans people, I can almost guarantee you believe some things that are insanely wrong.
It blows my mind every day. I think a lot of it also has to do with preconceived notions almost everyone has from all the myths they've heard their entire life about trans people. They think they already know everything, so why listen

Ask yourself: What are these questions you supposedly can't ask? What is the nuanced conversation you want to be having, but can't? Have you educated yourself and attempted to engage in a conversation, or are you repeating what "everyone knows" without the slightest idea what you actually think.
Which American trans activists are virulent demogogues? What are their names, and what organizations do they represent?

One thing I really wish I could pound into the heads of the people at the Times is that some of us are neither trans nor activist but just think their trans coverage is dogshit journalism, as journalism
Ah but when you look at the historical example of gay marriage, the moderates who said civil unions were enough were wise and the extremists who wanted marriage equality were unnecessarily aggressive, and that is why the moderates won and gay people are content with only civil unions today
Also the Jeremy Peters piece has nothing to say on its own supposed terms—oh, a rights movement is a mix of accommodationists angling for compromise and more confrontational people demanding full empowerment, fascinating

So, I'm mostly lurking here and have been loving it. It reminds me of how I used to feel about the other place when I started there in around 2012. I haven't been active there for years now and bluesky is giving me back something I thought was lost to me (that I can't entirely put into words yet).
