we are all understandably wondering "how afraid should i be?" but that's not actually a helpful question because even if it were answerable, the information wouldn't be useful. the question we need to be asking is "what power do i have?" and one thing i know for a fact you all can do is be annoying.
here is the unappealing truth: resistance means asserting yourself as a pest. one sting isn't sufficient; you've got to keep biting, till your voice is not only expected but bemoaned. right now, the best way to love your country is to make some underpaid staffer say "not *this* person again."

it's not an ironclad principle but as a general rule of thumb: if an American pastor is constantly whining about religious persecution, they're probably not a very good pastor. if they're actually getting death threats, they're probably doing something right.
Bishop Budde told Time she's received death threats since her sermon asking Trump to show mercy to LGBTQ children & undocumented migrants (time.com/7209222/bish...). That's sadly not surprising given animosity against her by Trumpian pastors & pundits (publicwitness.wordandway.org/p/brave-serm...)

Who among us hasn't woken up screaming from their demon bird dream only to realize it was just the smoke detector battery going dead? 🫣
Special shoutout this morning to the smoke detector on the highest part of the ceiling in my house that decided to alert me to its low battery at 3 in the morning. I didn’t need the sleep anyway. Very cool.

Finally got around to @jamiebgolden.bsky.social’s #greenlight Drowning by T.J. Newman. I loved how this book started right in the middle of the action and didn’t slow down. More than just thrills, it’s also a beautiful exploration of how we hold on to grief. Can’t wait to read T.J.’s other books!

My husband and I bought a house a few months ago that came with (at least) 8 #boxturtles that live in the back yard. We’ve had so much fun watching and learning about them.
