In the current AI-cover kerfuffle, I just thought I'd say that The Emotion Dealer and other stories has a 100% organic cover by wonderful Canterbury artist Henry Turner, and also you can buy it now www.nationwidebooks.co.nz/product/The-...
It exists in physical form! THE EMOTION DEALER AND OTHER STORIES is only two months away from launch! Check out how great it looks!

E hoa Kikorangi mā, what do you buy for an office secret santa when the only thing you know about your recipient is their name?

Do not be weird about it, don't ask why, just be inwardly grateful that if something happens you will have a sober adult around to help.

And try to have something else to offer.
Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

I made a list! Number 5 on the Unity Books Wellington weekly list. Cheers to my family who undoubtedly created the bulk of demand.

Just a reminder to all my queer and trans whānau who feels like you're being told you shouldn't exist - every day you keep going, those people lose. You don't even have to get out of bed to be victorious.

Can't imagine a parent having to explain to their 10-year-old that the government has decided they must suffer lifelong harm, because a cisgender child is more important than they are, so that child has to be kept safe.

Look, I get why web developers encourage organisations to build on SilverStripe. I do. However, if I click on an element to add content and get sent to the fucken homepage one more time I am going to do some Tron shit so I can punch this CMS in the face.

If only I had clocked this 13 years ago when I went to journalism school. On the upside, my 'kids with lambs' stories were very well written.
Reporting and writing are different skills. There are very good reporters who come up short in the writing department.

I'll take a good reporter I have to clean up over a great writer with no reporting chops any day.

Do I know anyone who deals with clubspark for websites? Really just want to know how annoying it is as a CMS before I end up volunteering to assist with it.

You pay fuel duty. Why don’t billionaires?

This week, we launched WeWingAnyCar.com to help you qualify for the same tax breaks that private jets get.

Because tax loopholes shouldn’t just be for billionaires.

They’re for everyone.

Auckland North Shore peeps: the new NZ Blood donor centre is very comfy, right next door to Constellation bus station and has plenty of parking. Get yourselves in there and, if you can donate plasma, please do coz they're having to import it.

At last, my irrational annoyance with people who back into car parks is validated
As we head into summer, remember to keep combustion vehicles away from dry grass as they have a tendency to do this.🔥
This happened in NZ and 28 vehicles were damaged. Hopefully combustion cars won't cause too many forest fires this season.

It's so weird how antidepressants only cause the impulse to commit mass violence in the country where there is easy access to guns. What a coincidence!
First they came for reproductive rights.
Then they came for vaccines.
Now they’re coming for mental health.

There is zero evidence SSRIs cause mass violence.

You know what does? Guns — and the fact that anyone can access weapons that kill hundreds in seconds.

If the barrel keeps having rotten apples put in, or apples are turning rotten once inside, at what point do you accept there’s a system problem?

Why are rotten apples put in? Why are they going rotten once in?

And why aren’t (more) politicians asking this about police?
