Trump's threat to sue is not about legitimate grievance and recompense; it is about power and extortion. If the BBC fights, they will lose access to him. If that's so, then they should pay that price.
The alternative is to - in effect - appoint Trump as editor-in-chief.
Those are the stakes.

Worked for BBC as a rural reporter & was horrified to see our BBC pandering to RW & slowly losing its precious neutrality.
IMHO we have to have an independent review, probably sack some & bring in stricter rules to protect BBC from malicious outside influence

The irony being that Mr Blobby’s career was boosted more by the BBC than any other platform. They promoted his showbiz approach to politics and in doing so, its current Board probably knowingly sabotaged it from the inside.

The fact that Boris Johnson is in every right wing newspaper blasting the BBC should tell you what the right want to happen to the Beeb?

Dominic Cummings, in an earlier incarnation, ran a secretly-funded 'think tank' dedicated to attacking the Beeb while Robbie Gibb glided effortlessly from GBNews to the BBC & started lecturing staff on impartiality. Imagine (cos you'll have to) how the 'left-wing' equivalent would be reported.

I'm pretty sure when the story first broke the Today programme described Michael Prescott as an "independent" adviser to the BBC. Might it correct itself?
