Please do. Please. The only way any of us who work in translation or copy, making products people use for both necessity and enjoyment, are going to keep our jobs (and users aren't going to get pummelled by slop) is if the people who pay for the products stop buying and the companies know why.

French publishing house Harlequin decided to use AI translation instead of human translations.

All their freelance translators (some of whom had been working with Harlequin for +30y!!!) were told they would no longer receive work from Harlequin

Rory spends nearly all of every weekday in a fluffy bed on Stacey’s desk, “working.”

So I got him a nameplate to make sure anyone who stops by knows who he is and what his job is.

Terence Davies' The House of Mirth is very impressive, if wholly deliberate. It is built on a beautifully modulated Gillian Anderson performance, that is understated, brittle and ultimately devastating. Her performance is the film and the film is her performance.

For those unfamiliar with Jólabókaflóð, or Jólabókaflóðið (Christmas Book Flood), it is an Icelandic tradition that books are given as gifts, opened on 24 Dec and everyone reads the books straight away, often while drinking hot chocolate or alcohol-free Christmas ale called jólabland.

The new revival of The Wiz is a true joy and the perfect escape into a vividly drawn world. It's easily in my top five musicals I've ever seen. Here's my review (gift link):"
Review: ‘The Wiz’ revival at the Orpheum is a must-see delight
It’s probably not a coincidence that “The Wiz” reemerged at a time when Oz is front and center of pop culture.

@chrispower.bsky.social wrote a bittersweet review of Soraya Antonius's The Lord: a rich picture of Mandatory Palestine, its independence movement, the consequences and follies of empire, and the unfortunate circular nature of history. It's worth reading.
