if you want to know what happened to Teen Vogue yesterday, my work wife @allegrak.bsky.social — who ran our politics section for 6 years until this past June — said it all in this.

can't even pull out a favorite part til I sign my separation letter lol, just read the whole thing.

I made a very silly video game last year, that I still love. I was supposed to be showing it at QGCon this weekend but the body had other plans, so I am putting it up online. I might take it down after the weekend, but while it's up go play this dumb thing.

there are undoubtedly positive aspects to social media, but there are also a lot of drawbacks. for a time the benefits might have outweighed the drawbacks, but imo the cons surpassed the pros ages ago and that gulf only grows with every passing year. it‘s long past time we got it under control.

If you care about games, take a moment to read through this and take action. NSFW games might not be for you - they're not for me - but we cannot allow a small group of censorious extremists to decide that people can not make games about sex, about sexuality, and about the role of sex in our world.
I know we're upset about itch, but they're not the only ones

So happy to see folks acknowledging the reality of travel to the states ATM! Thank you @vividfoundry.bsky.social 🧡
I deeply appreciate @megannicolett.bsky.social's article that highlights what's at stake for my studio to give up going to GDC; But the mental exhaustion with US's deteriorating relations with Canada + risk of inhumane deportations is antithetical to me doing business.

My latest.

As journalists and writers, we have a duty to use language that is accurate and describes our current reality.

I’m no longer going to talk about DEI/Anti-DEI.

Let’s be clear. We are facing racial purges and re-segregation.

I said this to a peer in my MA program recently and I could see her mind exploding...
So many students (and people) don't understand that reading and summarizing and drawing connections is how you develop knowledge. You have to do the thinking part.

If you offload the thinking to AI you are asking it to take your job.
Writing a literature review is thinking. It is reading, choosing, summarizing, cross pollinating ideas and building the foundations for your own research. Every part of that process is necessary to do on your own--offloading any of that onto LLMs is a sign of a crappy academic.

At the same time so much to say about how often this and other outlets did not do this kind of reporting more and sooner. “Hear from people who missed the first signs” (and you should) as the framing w/ no institutional reflexivity.

Sitting in a tech business all hands after the inauguration yesterday is a surreal experience. The cognitive dissonance of the human-centric marketing spiel alongside the overt fascism that technology has supported both in the US and globally is a sight to see.
