Still waiting for the great leap forwards.
Watching movies.
Playing the guitar.

Is this thing on?

V for Vendetta would probably be considered a bit too on the nose right now.

And it wasn't exactly subtle in the first place.

I call on my party and my government to remove themselves entirely from X and communicate with the public where they actually participate online and can be protected from such illegality.

This looks like fairly standard tactics when an imperial power had set it's mind on something. First, claim that the current owners aren't doing a good job of looking after the thing. Then, make a case that the current residents would actually prefer you to take charge.

Yeah the giveaway was when Trump worked for the mafia for the last 50 years. Before I wrote about it, Wayne Barrett and David Cay Johnston documented it in the 1980s and 1990s. But history doesn't matter to these people.

one thing i've noted a few times is reactionary centrists have never, ever, ever understood the criticism of them

to the point that when they hear someone say what they find objectionable about them, they literally have no idea what they're talking about

It's New Year, so time to look back and forward. These are 10 things I think we need to recognise in 2026. It’s a response to what I think are profoundly damaging mistaken assumptions I’ve heard and read from practitioners, journalists, and analysts in 2025. Warning: very long🧵

Good interview in the paper, this. I think Sadiq is right: London 'needs' to be less successful than it is for a bunch of political arguments here in the UK to work, hence the fictions being invented about it:
Populists attack London because it is ‘progressive and successful’, says Sadiq Khan
Rightwing attacks on one of the world’s most visited cities at odds with reality, says mayor

There's a sequence towards the end of Weapons which reminds me of a segment in Monty Python's Meaning of Life and I can't decide whether it's meant to be funny or not.
It doesn't ruin the film but the shift in tone is a little jarring and I can't decide if it's deliberate or not.

In Icelandic folklore Jólakötturinn, the Yule Cat, comes to eat those who do not wear their new clothes for Christmas. In this image, you can see somebody did not put on their new Christmas sweater. Or perhaps even more unfortunately, no one got them one!

So he's saying that everyone will benefit equally?
Isn't that like some sort of Socialism?
😐
Lutnick isn’t stupid. He knows what he’s saying here is a lie. Kellyanne knows this is a lie. But they have nothing but contempt for the Fox audience, and serving up lies to the lemmings has worked so well for so long. A tiny handful are doing well, millions are not.
