I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

This feels like the right take on the end game - add that the scarcity of jobs furthermore shuts POC and women out achieving racist ends and subjugation of women…
all of the talk of “reshoring (low end) manufacturing” and “bringing back the american worker” is a smokescreen for a plan to impoverish as many americans by forcing as many of them as possible into backbreaking, low wage labor. it’s discipline for an unruly populace.

This is a very important point. Breathlessly vague headlines and summaries of these executive orders created for the executive powers it does not have. This kind of press contributed to authoritarian regime change.
It's critical for everyone to remember what an Executive Order is. It is the President communicating orders to members of the executive branch. Policies to pursue, actions to take, etc. They are not laws. They are not close to being laws. They are formalized memos to employees. That's all.

But this is about purging ALL of academia, government, the corporate world, and yes, the military of Black influence first and foremost.. but also women, LGBTQ, and the disabled.

It's about destroying these pipelines, salting the earth, then paving over the wreckage.

the fascists are looking to rigidly define gender not just to punish trans people like they claim but to lay the groundwork for the oppression of all women. when gender is legally mutable, it is harder to use it to restrict people’s rights.

they are stealing data from the american people and depriving us of the transparency that we are entitled to by law. none of this is legal and not a single federal employee has any reason to comply.

I would caution people to stop relying on the Constitution as written to have any meaning other than what the people Trump put on the Supreme Court says it means.

"He can't do that" is not a useful response to the things he's going to do. The correct response is "Will the Court uphold that?"
Trump cannot abrogate birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment by way of executive order. That’s not how constitutional rights work.

I was about to post something similar until I saw Aaron post it. And he's spot on here. This is one of several reasons Trump is confident going into this term, he's got social media power on his side.
Trump hated TikTok (because China) until it helped him win an election (as even he acknowledges) and now he’s going to save it and take a victory lap. So he’ll have X, TikTok, Insta, and Facebook all working on his behalf. That’s a big difference between now and 2017.

I am fully convinced that B-roll is a significant contributor to misperceptions on immigration, because images are so powerful and because B-roll isn’t thought of in a journalistically rigorous manner.
“One veteran NBC News journalist described concerns that the network’s mass deportation coverage would focus on b-roll of immigrants at the border, when the story will largely unfold in the interior of the country: from meatpacking plants to the cities and communities where they live.”
"As the media ramps up its coverage of Trump 2.0, the question that it must confront is not just the scope of what transpires but the frame in which the issue is presented."
