"for he that is born in Ireland, though his parents and all his ancestors were aliens, nay if his parents are Indians or Turks, if converted to Christianity, is an Irishman as fully as if his ancestors were born here for thousands of years..."
So, they're memory-holed in Ireland as a bunch of losers to Cromwell. Which isn't fair, because the Confederacy really did aspire to be an all-Ireland, cross-religion body.

I've been unsuccessfully looking for a book that covers the Irish Confederacy Wars (1641-1653: basically the Irish strand of the War of the 3 Kingdoms).
And instead, I found a podcast, @paxbritannicapod.bsky.social ,
whose series 2 and 3 covers the period in a lot of detail ).

Today I learned Charles Stewart Parnell was the subject of Hollywood film.

Played by Clarke Gable no less!
Amazing charity shop find today: three professionally framed original 1937 movie ads for ‘Parnell’, starring Clark Gable and Myrna Loy. They are fabulous - exhibition quality framing 😱 €5 each - so of course I bought all of them 🤩

As I read this while writing a thesis on toleration...

The difference between simple prejudice and a valid argument not tolerate something is the latter is based on reason.

Unclear what the valid argument is here.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood made more explicit her argument that when ethnic minorities face racism, "we have no choice but to ask: what is the cause of our division"

Her answer is the level of net migration, 2019-23 causes racism. (She on Monday said it was caused by the scale of asylum)

He is ignoring the passage of time. US was established based on British polical ideas, but the British establishment moved on from those ideas precisely because of that.

Skinner's Liberty as Independence good on this.

Well documented US also has moved away from those ideas, esp in recent decades.
