Texas has recorded more than 3,500 cases of whooping cough so far this year, 10 times the number in 2023.

The uptick has coincided with a decline in vaccination rates for whooping cough, according to disease experts who urge the best way to control the spread is to get vaccinated.

Right, keep practicing those prayers, kids, but no school lunch. Give us this day our daily bread is a reality.
Attorney General Ken Paxton on Tuesday encouraged students to practice the Lord’s Prayer as relayed in the King James Version of the Bible, marking the latest instance of a Texas public official endorsing Christianity over other faiths.

The endorsement comes as Texas elected officials push for more Christianity in public life and as Paxton’s office fights a legal challenge to religion in education.

No thank you.
More than 300 Texas school districts and charter schools have signaled plans to use a state-developed reading and language arts curriculum that attracted national attention last year for its heavy references to the Bible and Christianity.
1 in 4 Texas school districts signs up for new Bible-infused curriculum
The numbers may grow as the state collects more data. Some districts adopted the plan not for its religious emphasis but for more funding and to better align with teaching requirements.

Three people were killed in a mass shooting at an Austin Target.

Texas has some of the loosest gun laws in the country.

We should be able to go back-to-school shopping in peace, but reckless Republican gun laws keep us in danger. #txlege

The fossil fuel industry doesn’t even want “extreme rainfall” predictions, since that puts attention on their polluting emissions. Sick.
NOAA was developing a tool to help communities prepare for future rainfall. Trump officials stopped it.
The tool would have projected how climate change could affect rainfall frequency and intensity in communities across the nation.

GOP Dysfunction Continues
And if that wasn’t bad enough - not *one* of the 82 bills proposed in Texas’s special session on Monday actually addressed the deadly floods.

But the Texas GOP *did* find time for anti-abortion, anti-trans, and anti-LGBTQ+ bills. Disgusting.
