Bitcoin is still a problem, folks
It got overshadowed by the pipeline news, but NYS’s deal to allow Greenidge Generation to keep operating an upstate gas plant *for the sole purpose of mining bitcoin* might be almost as big of a reversal gothamist.com/news/upstate...
Upstate NY Bitcoin mine agrees to slash emissions, will get air permit from the state
The move comes days after Hochul’s administration paved the way for a new natural gas pipeline in New York Harbor.

The installed capacity of carbon capture and storage is about 50 megatonnes per annum of carbon, but it actually captures about 30 a year

Have been hunting for this number for a LONG time - buried in a DNV CCS report ->

Climate denial never disappeared — it evolved. The same networks that once denied the science now work to obstruct climate policy and dismantle global climate governance.

And you’re going to see a LOT of this coming out of COP.

But if you want to see what the real issues of food and climate change are, and find solutions that work, we have you covered.

First, the science underpinning the issue:

The problem with food and climate — and how to fix it
Global food production — from meat to grains — accounts for a third of all greenhouse gas emissions, says sustainability scientist Jonathan Foley. He presents a portfolio of data-backed solutions to b...

When big food doesn’t want to talk about cutting emissions — by shifting diets, ending corn ethanol, reducing food waste, protecting forests, or managing fertilizers — they try to distract you.

They say methane “doesn’t count”.
They try to sell “regenerative grazing”.

They try to greenwash.

New reality: the 1.5 °C target is slipping out of reach. Glen P. Peters argues that while staying under 1.5 °C may become impossible, staying well below 2 °C remains within reach — and urgent, pragmatic policy action can still make a difference.

It's funny how hard we have to work to convince the world that uncontrolle data centre expansion is a climate risk when there's a fossil gas power station called the EXXONMOBIL POWER PLANT being built explicitly to power a data centre
Not enough people know about Homer City. The single largest fossil fuel plant that's being built *explicitly* to power a data centre.

This isn't a future projection, or some hollow marketing. This is physical stuff happening right now.

I often read on social media that Germany just replaced nuclear with coal.

That is evidently not the case.

Coal generation is down by more than 60% over last decade with nuclear now gone.

However, Germany could have phased out coal by now if it had kept nuclear generation going at 2011 levels.
