For folks who've not met me before, here's a thread of things I love! It's hard to capture EVERYTHING... so I'll try to prioritize things I either love a lot, or that are more obscure that I want to shine a spotlight on! Feel free to ask about if I like something if it's not on the list : )

Just a reminder to check for your name in this list of books that OpenAI trained from. If your name is there, they probably owe you several thousand dollars.

OpenAI cried that if everyone eligible author files, the company will go bankrupt, so I'm alerting every author I have ever spoken to.

The Fed says it’s data-driven. But when consumers start skipping car payments, it’s no rounding error; it’s a flashing alarm.
They’re Skipping Car Payments; That’s The Final Warning Sign
Auto loan delinquencies just hit a 15-year high. Consumers are skipping car payments, signaling deeper financial stress. Markets haven’t priced it in yet.

This is why I don't like AI use for ANY reason, even if it's just to dunk on AI. Any use takes up resources and energy that could be better used doing literally anything else. Any "good potential use" for AI is annihilated by how much energy it takes to make it. Throw it in the trash, it's no good!
A regular reminder that using Grok is actively poisoning my former home of Memphis, Tennessee, a relatively poor and majority Black major city in the American South. Allowing the DoD to use it will escalate this dramatically.

It's almost like it's the diff between a generation who got calls mostly from friends and one that gets calls mostly from scammera
I have learned that Gen Z expects the person calling to say "hello" first, instead of the person answering; upending a century of phone norms. You know what? fine, I say. Phone calls aren't what they used to be anyway www.businessinsider.com/gen-z-phone-...
Gen Z doesn't say 'hello' when answering the phone. I'm concerned.
Gen Z is making up its own etiquette rules when it comes to answering the phone. Some of them aren't saying "hello." They want you to first.

anyone saying this has also probably not paid any attention to the indie dev community's broad feelings on this subject, nor the ridiculously high quality of the art coming out of it year after year

My brother in Christ, my backlog is literally thousands of games long. I have lifetimes worth of earlier titles to play, & I will gladly do that instead of boiling the oceans for a new CoD or whatever

You know what would encourage people to get more physical activity? No, it is not wearable fitness trackers. It is:

1. A liveable wage so people have time for it

2. Safe parks and other infrastructure for such activity

But that’s too hard.

Democrats are racking their brains trying to find the "Joe Rogan of the left" while doing everything they can to defeat people like Zohran Mamdani and AOC, who actually possess the skills they're so desperately looking for.
the thing with Mamdani is that he’s obviously an incredible political talent - the campaign he’s run has been extremely impressive even if you don’t like his policies

the party should be delighted, and that they’re instead pulling out all the stops to beat him speaks volumes

I'm increasingly mad at the casual usage of ChatGPT with seemingly no regard for the ethical, environmental, and educational impacts.

People are inventing problems to solve with their wasteful technology that genuinely makes things as a whole, worse.

The gobsmacking bit is that vaccines are popular, access to abortion is popular, the educational system is popular, the postal service is popular. People love the weather service, Medicare, and Social Security.

So what explanation can there be other than racism, misogyny, and greed?

When we're done with all of this, we should really get rid of:

- the two party system
- the presidency
- the US Senate

If we had a parlimentary, multi-party system, we could have elections in months to remove this clearly insane guy from office. Instead, we have to wait almost three years.
