Many of these kids require accommodations for post-viral neurological symptoms and do not know it.
I know my kid was a *voracious* reader & writer until after multiple covid infections resulted in long covid symptoms/brain fog which made dealing with text almost impossible for the first year, and much harder, slower after some recovery -

We are failing them in more ways than one.

I'm seeing a disturbing number of people thinking the take-away from this article is "phones are the problem," a conclusion one can only arrive at if one has failed to read the article for comprehension.

Come on people, social media didn’t make kids bad at reading comprehension. That frames the unacceptable as inevitable. Mass disinvestment from humanities education, from teaching nuance, critique, and deliberation did. Policy is the problem and policy is the solution. Eyes on the prize.
