Shedding a tear for the nation that could have been and that we thought was possible
"escaped containment" is doing all the work here, it never went away but they just switched for awhile to saying the Real Racism was pointing that out, now they can say it with pride
Here is the editor of Tablet agreeably reposting someone calling nonwhite NYC immigrants "worthless biotrash." It's astonishing how quickly this stuff has escaped containment

it's good to just show up where people are doing good work and tell them to put you to work doing whatever is useful. tbh i love feeling like a cog in a machine as long as i am a fan of the machine.

Almost as if the most vehement opponents of critical race theory are its biggest believers (e.g. majority group bias is as inevitable as natural disasters, which yes but)
A perfect illustration of @larryglickman.bsky.social’s point about how reporters treat aggressive campaigns of white resentment as natural phenomena that have no agency or agenda behind them.

Backlash politics is a fact of life! Let’s focus on how liberals must accept it and adjust, like we have!
Real "oh my god, she admit it" moment here. Trump is treated as an uninteresting figure without agency so we can dump endless criticism on liberals for how they react to his "natural disaster." He "doesn't participate in moral frameworks" lmfao

Editorial | Trump’s anti-Somali rampage thrusts Minnesota into the national spotlight
The president’s racist, divisive rhetoric will do nothing to actually prevent fraud, the Editorial Board writes.

The entire “Biden crime family“ thing was a transparent attempt to whatabout the blatant Trump family corruption in his first term, and everyone went along with it. Don’t sell that to me now as some kind of boomerang
Donald Trump had reasonable concerns about how Joe Biden’s relatives enriched themselves through his service. Yet his own family is making the “Biden crime family” look small-time
How Donald Trump is turning into Joe Biden
It’s about more than denying inflation

For The Ringer, I wrote about the best TV coaching trees, from series that did the best job of finding and nurturing writers and/or directors who would go on to make great shows of their own:

Vince Gilligan is eternal proof of the strength of the ‘X-Files’ writers room. But frankly, that room has a ton of competition across television history.

So vile
The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email

This was also the view of the Republican President and legislators at the start of the Great Depression. As with so much else, they want to take us back to before the intervening catastrophes that convinced enough people they were wrong, have a do-over, and hope it doesn’t happen again 🫣
The USA is being run by people who think arbitrary private charitable donations are the only acceptable way to meet human needs

It's important to feed people right away but also not to reinforce the opposition narrative, instead demanding govt accountability for agreed basic living standards

Government shutdowns are dumb. The way funding works is a policy choice, not inherent to the Constitution. Congress could pass a law today that automatically authorizes spending in perpetuity at the levels of the most recent appropriations bill. This is how other countries do it!

you're just not reading the emphasis, the patch says "don't tread on ME," but him treading on you is just fine
A fully-militarized state agent directly involved in an aggressive campaign to round up people, most of whom now don't have a criminal record, and rendition some of them to places they don't come from--potentially including a dictator's gulag. And he's wearing "Don't Tread on Me" patch?
