Dark things are happening. But also, my partner and I are going to have a child and this morning we're preparing for a baby shower.
It's so lovely to come together with our friends and family. May you all be well today.

I had an international student in my office hours yesterday and I ended up explaining the government shutdown to someone who hadn't imagined that governments could shut down.
He asked "why would this be a thing?", very reasonably

I'm downtown in beautiful downtown Chicago. All we need to be safe is to get ice and troops out of our city.

Someone asked me what victory against the forces seeking to occupy Chicago looks like. Obviously, those forces being repelled is the goal, but there are layers to what success looks like in these deteriorating conditions. The first is to successfully resist the normalization of military occupation.

Threatening to criminalize one of Ireland's most successful writers for caring about Palestine pretty much guarantees that half of Ireland will find a way to shove this back in the face of the UK government. If they go through with it, they will face a level of piss-taking they've never seen before.

This is one of the key reasons that democrat centrists trying to pivot away from identity politics (as if that were somehow an option) is so dangerous.
Yeah, if we’re frank, what we’re seeing is people probing how much overt support they can show for pushing Black people out of public life and making any mention of racism beyond the pale of polite conversation.

Who's the fifth sociologist?! It's not me! I'm happy for other people to have their genders, especially if it makes their buttfucking hotter!
Yes, compulsory gender is wrong and should be beaten to death in an alley.
That said, I wouldn't want to rid the world of all gender, bc four out of five sociologists of sex agree that voluntary gender play makes buttfucking 88% hotter than buttfucking alone.

"And then we had gender for no reason"
Still one of the signs of all time. 😂

So many studies use intelligence as an outcome, but where is the research about how to improve wisdom at the population level?!
