And we knew this. This wasn't speculation. We studied it, we had the talking points. We trained volunteers to explain this to people. It's not a surprise. Rich people don't flee places with good quality of life when we increase the quality of life. They might try to cheat us, but they don't leave.
NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

I am proud to announce that tonight, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (MI-12) endorsed my campaign for U.S. Senate. Rep. Tlaib embodies the bold, principled leadership that Michiganders trust to never back down in the face of injustice. Honored to have her by our side in this fight.

A 2020 study found that Amazon—which shares owner Jeff Bezos with The Washington Post—is one of the largest employers of people on SNAP.
As SNAP funds froze, mayors and governors have pledged to supplement the missing federal assistance, while federal judges ruled Friday that the Trump administration should use contingency funds to keep food aid running despite the government shutdown.
Uncertainty hits after vulnerable Americans woke up to a SNAP freeze
Amid a benefits pause, nonprofit groups plan to work extra hours to get food out to vulnerable residents, and local community members are also stepping up.

As someone that grew up receiving SNAP at various times and also struggled as a young adult to consistently follow through on the cumbersome process of establishing benefits while working three jobs and attending college, I can attest to our broken system.

“70% of wage-earning adults who rely on government programs like SNAP and Medicaid work full-time, many at hugely profitable companies like Walmart and McDonald’s whose low wages are effectively subsidized by tax dollars without any of the blame or paternalistic lectures.”
SNAP benefits feed essential needs while still leaving many hungry for more
Journalist and author Adam Chandler explains what so much of the conversation about them gets wrong.

A ceasefire that stops and starts on a war criminal’s terms isn’t “peace.” Real, lasting peace requires accountability for the genocide, dignity and self-determination for Palestinians, and a final end to U.S. funding for this.
BREAKING: The Israeli military says the ceasefire in Gaza is back in effect after it carried out heavy airstrikes across the Palestinian territory. The death toll from the overnight strikes climbed to 81, according to hospital officials.

labour/democrats/whoever are not losing because they’re discussing supporting trans people. they’re losing because they agreed, by engaging in the argument at all, with the premise that some minority groups can be blamed for social problems.

it’s only ever going to be a question of who is blamed.
