Pulling climate data offline, canceling research grants, and de-funding scientific institutions doesn't just suppress climate information. It weakens the foundation we rely on to make good decisions of any kind.

In my latest "Tea with Katharine" I share why investment in science is so important!

Good morning and happy New Year's Eve to everyone. Time zones are so weird. Australia is already in 2026. Europe is still in 2025. And the United States is in 1933.

As in USA, Australian politicians are still wedded to neoliberal ideology.
Why…because they & their donors profit.
That this inequality accelerating dogma still persists is because voters have failed to collectively reject it.
Duopoly politics has entrenched it and a new political paradigm is needed
Since 1975, $79 trillion in wealth has been redistributed from the bottom 90% to the top 1% — a 1% that now owns more wealth than the bottom 93%.

We can respect innovation & entrepreneurship, but we cannot respect the extraordinary greed that now exists.

We need a wealth tax.

Australia was in the BELEM DECLARATION ON THE TRANSITION AWAY FROM FOSSIL FUELS for about 24 hours, before its Prime Minister declared that you need to extract more gas to help the transition away from fossil fuels.

Ireland is pushing a motion to ban Israel from FIFA and UEFA.

It has made JD Vance very mad.

It's time to remove Israel from world sport, don't you agree?

New Australia Institute polling reveals only 8% of Australians are genuinely convinced Australia “shares values” with Trump’s America.

AUKUS will not make Australia safer.

It makes Australia more vulnerable and compromises our ability to make independent decisions about our own security.

Dump AUKUS. It’s time to take a breath. Look at where all that nuke submarine money could go.

What is even the point of Labor, or more appropriately Liberal Light. Break the duopoly!
When Labor and Liberals sit down to settle environment laws, there is an invisible but powerful presence in the room with them: the fossil fuel lobby.

Exhibit Z on how the 'two-party system' is so toxic for the national interest. #ClimateCrisis #auspol
Just so we’re clear: Labor is choosing to work with the worst possible party on environmental issues, instead of the Greens and teals who actually want environmental regulation.
And Watt is already admitting it won’t have a climate trigger …

MEDIA RELEASE: Labor’s 62 to 70% climate target does not align with the science, but can be met by phasing out fossil fuels

“A cut of at least 75% cut by 2035 is what was required & it’s a missed opportunity for the govt to show it is serious about climate change," said @richarddenniss.bsky.social.
Labor’s 62 to 70% climate target does not align with the science, but can be met by phasing out fossil fuels
A cut in greenhouse gas emissions of at least 75% below 2005 levels would have broadly aligned with the science and strengthened Australia’s bid to host the 2026 United Nations climate conference.

Gentle reminder that Labor’s targets are bullshit because their emissions reduction policies are bullshit - real emissions aren’t falling at all, they’re flat, but the govt employs land-use accounting tricks and dodgy offsets to sell their lies

In 54 days it'll be the 50th Anniversary of The Dismissal of Gough Whitlam

What I don't see in today's politicians, that Whitlam had, is a vision 4 our future, prepared to really create social change

Gough was intelligent, audacious

I miss politicians like that
