One of my biggest #retrogaming issues is re-releases seldom include the manual. The actual, printed, full-color manual with art, maps, diagrams.

Players were expected to read the manual before playing from at least the NES era to PS2 era, and a lot of description/story is simply not in the game […]

An illustration teacher told us one day “an artist is only as good as his reference folder” and I still think about that. Delegating the ref-gathering & moodboarding to genAI, aside from all the ethical concerns, seems to me the single most cruel and devastating thing you can do to your design.

My PBR infected brain seeing this:
Mary, you have Metal set on your apple material! The Albedo shouldn't be affecting the specular highlights on this only semi glossy fruit! Mary!

Hey! Yeah so this Metroidvania grew out of a game jam we did a long while back. I was involved in just about every animated character you see in this game! EXTRA for enemies, I animated 100% of every enemy in the game, including the bosses!

Super hype to announce this!!✨

Presenting Planet Jellham, the movement focused Metroidvania I've been working on quietly in the background with my pals!

Explore a gooey alien planet and recruit the local jelly hamsters to unlock new powers. Coming early 2026, for the low, low price of free!

Yeah, like, I *know* trying to normalize a vector of all zeroes is undefined because of the division the operation, BUT whyyy does your library function silently give me NaNs??

And undocumented to boot
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/api/system.numerics.vector3.normalize
Vector3.Normalize(Vector3) Method (System.Numerics)
Returns a vector with the same direction as the specified vector, but with a length of one.

I'm about to crest a hill with my 3d project because I took a detour to relearn collision physics, and things are clicking together again.

I want to start an progress thread once I had visual things to show, but we'll see

I wonder if you could get people to auto balance metro train cars adding places to tap their metro cards on each car and giving out trip discounts for getting on emptier cars, eg. ones further from the platform entrance.

Deeply disappointed by Fedora's new AI policies that allows AI contributions.

It is impossible to argue *who* owns any snippet of AI generated code. Is code that is generated by OpenAI is owned by OpenAI? The person who sniped it from their chatlog? This is ignoring that the AI industry itself […]

A project I have no time or expertise for:

A FOSS sample/sound effect manager that can organize my libraries with tags, play back sounds, and importantly make subclips from sound files with multiple sounds

Anyone ever done a meta-analysis research study (?) on 3D character movement in games?

I've been finding academic styled papers on Quake and Team Fortress 2 movement which got me wondering

I'm Spex, 3d generalist/tech artist and hobby gamedev who likes to branch out into whatever seems interesting.

I have a few games I'm working on, and I post about game jams a lot - but you'll mostly see me posting bright low/midpoly 3d art and the occasional 3d print!

Wow I don't think I've had such a visceral reaction to a new UI design as I've had to the Android 16 brightness and volume bars.

Just straight up bad.

Swordnik 24: Venom

I sure did think that animating a snake would be easier than animating legs for some reason 😅

I do love how this Snake man's arms are pretty much magic bundles of coil instead of anything real though, that part was fun.
