And done! There's a lot of work to be done after this PR, and I'm sure I introduced some bugs with it, but for the first time, almost all Calibre tests run in Arcalibre. Many of them fail, but *running* tests is a huge improvement!

https://codeberg.org/rereading/arcalibre/pulls/20
Migrate existing unit tests to pytest.
The original Calibre package used an ad-hoc test discovery framework, wherein each module under test defines a `find_tests` function that is then called by an eventual test harness command in `make.py`. This causes issues such as #19, wherein some modes of test failure can propagate to errors in ...

I said in replies that my experience with mypy has been overwhelmingly negative, and I stand by that, but it's also important that it's *my experience*. I'm coming at mypy with the expectation that "type checker" means "program that checks whether a program is well-typed or not," but that seems […]

It's past Christmas, so time for more Arcalibre work! Today, got a bunch more unit tests moved out of the src/ tree and into a separate tests folder. Not all of them pass yet, and there's still a bunch more to move over, but 46 / 268 failing isn't quite as bad as I feared […]

I guess I really shouldn't pay as much attention to Home Assistant integration quality scores.

Oh, this is a wonderful Christmas present! Spellbook, an upstream project that I've been considering using in Arcalibre to replace the hunspell dependency has been approved, and the Spellbook devs already have a PR implementing the feature!

https://github.com/helix-editor/spellbook/issues/10
Request: add `remove` method to `Dictionary`. · Issue #10 · helix-editor/spellbook
The Hunspell API exposes a Hunspell::remove method, but there's not currently a corresponding method on spellbook::Dictionary, making it difficult to use Spellbook as a drop-in replacement for Huns...

We put Chewie in booties, as he's had trouble with traction in his ripe old age. Look back, and he's wagging his tail, grinning as wide as a dog can, wearing exactly one bootie. No idea where he left the others, he's been denning under the kitchen table the whole time.

I get very few ads, and I've gone to great lengths to ensure that I don't expose my brain to uncontrolled psychological manipulation like that. One of the few places I still see ads, though, is also one of the giant tech things I haven't yet succeeded in breaking out of my life: YouTube.

Which […]

I offer Cassandra's Complete Class Theorem¹.

All "good use cases for AI" break down into one of four categories:

I. Bad use case.
II. Good use case, but not something AI can do.
III Good use case, but it's already been done without AI.
IV. Not AI in the LLMs and GANs sense, but in the machine […]

US citizen born in US deported based entirely on DHS/ICE looking at the paperwork proving her citizenship and saying "nah". No judicial process, or rather a court reviewed it and was overridden by ICE.

There is no rule of law in America, and there is no such thing as "Citizenship" in America.
"Her family has now been told she has been deported, despite US District Judge Brendan Hurson ruling Thursday that she could not be deported pending a hearing...attorneys said Monday that they have...confirm[ed] with the hospital she was born in Maryland." https://bit.ly/3MMdJvz

• The video goes out of its way over and over again to mitigate any critique of the Trump administration or its horrific policies. Why […]
