Life hack: always keep your music player app up and running so that you can test volume levels whenever you need to. Also so that you can always listen to music.

I didn't expect Nagano 1998 to become discourse on main in 2026, but I'm still fucked that Lipinski beat Kwan because of shitty judging standards.

For personal **trauma** reasons, 1998 is also the last year that I seriously followed Olympic judging standards in figure skating, so I guess this […]

I'm more concerned with how you make a bloody Markdown parser expose an RCE, what in the hell.

It finally happened, I found a GitHub feature that I miss on Codeberg: suggested changes in review comments.

Not normally for shonen personally, so I didn't expect to like My Hero Academia as much as I am. It's a YA shonen, and proud of it — it's also surprisingly character driven so far, and goes some pretty real places.

How do you write a whole quashing rumors about a Harry Potter Universes Beyond set without once mentioning that JKR is a transeliminationist nor that the books are racist as fucking hell?

There is something incredibly and disgustingly dissonant about the guy most uniquely implicated by the Epstein files taking a victory lap *today* by characterizing trans people as child mutilators.

AI is the ivermectin of the tech world.

(This isn't a perfect analogy, ivermectin is still useful for horse deworming.)

Hot take: looking for a single silver-bullet Discord replacement is solving the wrong problem. Corporate power has pushed us towards everything-apps, but it's OK for the tool you use to communicate with other users of an open source project to look different from the tool you use to text your […]

Added a bunch of TODO issues to the pyreading repo. If you're looking to contribute to Arcalibre, an AI-free fork of the Calibre e-book manager, helping out with some of the wheels that Arcalibre depends on would be a really appreciated way to chip in! […]

My use of Python is slightly idiosyncratic in that if `python` is ever on $PATH, I consider that to be a failure.

But I have some reasoned justifications for why I have that criterion: thanks to the tireless and unfortunately somewhat thankless work folks have done to make Python packaging not […]

My GitHub issue searching is failing, does anyone know of a feature request issue on PDM asking for an npx-style features, a la `uvx`?

That's literally the only uv feature that I use and that doesn't have a 1:1 equivalent in PDM.

Part of the foibles of having an older dog, but Chewie's vision is going a bit, and sometimes there's a shadow across the floor that scares him, such that he's afraid to cross over it without help.

We've come to call those floor-is-lava moments, or even just lava.

@xgranade I am tired and this is probably a shitpost but also it's real:

it's like class consciousness.

there are benefits to organizing.

one class is organized.

one isn't.

"just use linux" fails largely because "linux" isn't organized, but "windows" (and "macOS", and "android", and "iOS", are)

@xgranade i think it's just not rewarding enough? like, it's more steps to do the same thing.

you need either a bigger stick or a bigger reward for things to work. more censorship usually works in the end

Telling people to "just use Linux" hasn't broken the OS duopoly. It doesn't matter that I get better fps gaming on Linux, or that I don't get ads baked into the OS itself.

Telling people to "just use Signal" hasn't broken Facebook's chokehold on messaging. It doesn't matter that using Signal is […]
