I distinctly remember this as a story during the Obama-Trump transition. Lots of stuff about how Trump will listen to the last person he talked to.
the takeaway from the Zohran Trump meeting is that Trump is a gullible fool who will temporarily bend to the last charismatic person he talked to.

Zohran played him perfectly but that doesn’t mean Trump is good now. He’ll go back to fascism tomorrow morning after he talks to Stephen Miller

I really like the direction this tax takes. The article does an excellent job highlighting the ridiculousness of surface parking lots and their inefficiencies.

Ideally, we wouldn't have a targeted tax like this and instead tax the land so that *everyone* is incentivized to redevelop
An upcoming ordinance, if passed by city council, would tax surface and garage parking lots. Funds would go to transportation projects like street and sidewalk maintenance. The ordinance is scheduled for a final council reading on Nov. 17. Read more here:
Spokane City Council considers taxing commercial parking lots – RANGE Media
The tax would add about $0.50 to a $3.85 parking fee and fund street repair. But it’s not just about revenue, it’s about increasing vibrancy downtown.

Many people are saying it!
Low on the very long list of Epstein crimes, but that evil man's punctuation style is deranged to the point of criminal. Comma use that can only be described as depraved

I want to take a moment to how insane it is that Epstein wrote his emails the way he did. The weird spacing, syntax. Obviously the least infuriating thing about him, but still. If you're going to incriminate the president of the United States at least have the decency to use punctuation

I don't understand, just have him do the Doctor Who thing?
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

But...you didn't work with them to solve anything? You just capitulated to their demands?

Trump has gotten away with shit his entire life because of his money, connections, and, for inexplicable reasons, the critical thinking part of everyone that interacts with him shrinks by half

That’s why we partnered with local orgs Waters Meet and Spokane Community Against Racism to create spokane.food, an interactive map of places to get support for food insecurity, or give support, if you’re in a place to help.

I was happy to see my nearest ballot drop box busy tonight, and some kids and their parents handing out "I Voted" stickers

Got back from Spokane No Kings protest. I have no idea how many people showed up because I started walking there and an organizer was ushering people away from the park already getting people lined up on the sidewalks because the park was overflowing.

Trump praised Rep. Baumgartner for this hit on Maria Bartiromo's show: "If anybody can do it, it can be President Trump ... Donald Trump continues to upend conventional wisdom and move into the possible what everybody said was not possible in the Middle East."

I've posted before that I think Dems/whoever should run on a platform of scaling back presidential powers. Really they should run on a democratic reform platform that includes reducing POTUS power, but also includes things that expands and strengthens democratic processes.
October 6, 2025 at 8:19 PM
I 100% agree. This should be the line Dems take when it comes to funding negotiations. Healthcare premiums are important, but unnecessarily federalizing troops and having them stationed all over the country under the guise of a crisis is far more important.
Every crisis is an opportunity. This is the moment for Dems on Capitol Hill to call a news conference and make clear: Not one dime to fund the federal government until Trump withdraws his unlawful orders and agrees not to send troops to occupy Democratic-run cities
The brave men and women who serve in our national guards must not be used as political props. This is a moment where every American must speak up and help stop this madness.

Anyone that's even kind of paid attention to the Ukrainian-Russian war knows that cheap, expendable drones is the future of warfare. You don't need to run a 7 minute mile for that.
watching Hegseth it was just completely obvious this is a *highly* neurotic man with extreme and well-deserved insecurities about his value to the military paulkrugman.substack.com/p/bulging-bi...

One thing I haven't read yet is that the right's reaction to all this feels like a test run for when Trump himself passes and how they'll use his passing to try and consolidate power. Though not clear who the power will consolidate around. There'll be a lot of infighting
