I have incredibly mixed feelings. What happened in Utah today was awful. I don't condone retribution, nor murder, nor the “eye for an eye” mentality. It’s tribalistic and feeds into the most animal impulses we have as humans. Perhaps if he had lived, he could have begun to seek repentance and repair

The idea that a government agency can knowingly and willing just lie to you as a strategy is unconscionable.

Yes, this is a post about ICE.

If lying is a fundamental strategy, then it cannot be justice. It is tainted from the outset.

Reminders:

"Concentration camps" aren't the same as "extermination camps." Both were/are horrific.

Most Nazi camps were *outside Germany*, away from the eyes of German citizens.

Those trains? Were to, uh, deport the category of people whose lives were deemed unimportant.

Never again is now.

These folks are fascists.

For Jews, how we responded will reveal whether and how we stayed true to our Jewish values.

And how Jewish orgs responded will indicate whether they had any legitimate claims on our allegiance.

Let’s be clear: when powerful men call empathy a weakness, what they’re really saying is, “Stop caring about people we want to hurt.”
Empathy is not the enemy.
It’s a threat to systems built on cruelty.
It disrupts power. It softens hearts. It humanizes the “other.”

You pathetic cowards. Did you not go to grammar school? Avoid the passive voice. "Seen as an escalation?"

Try this:

The White House directed federal law enforcement to seek action against lawyers who challenge the President's actions, suspending the 1st Amendment right to a redress of grievances
The White House is directing federal law enforcement officials to seek sanctions against attorneys or law firms that challenge President Donald Trump’s actions in court, a move seen as an escalation of the president’s attacks on those who oppose him.
New Trump memo seen as threat to lawyers, attempt to scare off lawsuits
Experts fear the move will allow the administration to make claims against litigators for defending immigrants or challenging the constitutionality of actions.

This is the White House declaring that the right to redress of grievances is suspended.

And it’s long past time for perjury cases to be opened against anyone who made a sworn statement in or to the court that Musk is not in charge of DOGE.
2/ This court filing undercuts public statements to the contrary by Trump officials.

It is most significant for at least three big Appointments Clause cases against Musk's exercise of government authority.

Indeed, the document was submitted over the weekend by @nationalsecuritylaw.org.

A great leader defines reality and gives hope.

Thankful to have leaders like AOC and Bernie out there to give us a direction and help us mobilize.
We expected 2,000 people out in GOP-held Greeley, Colorado.

11,000 people showed up.

Something special is happening, folks. Now is the time to organize in every dimension possible and get to work.

She tried defending DOGE and it went as well as you’d imagine.

American “individualism” is more about a lack of collective care and understanding of our obligations to one another than it is true self-sufficiency.

Our culture’s obsession with charismatic savior types in politics (see also: celeb culture) is so much about Daddy coming to care for us / fix it
I’m sure the support of state—er, corporate media has nothing to do with this at all.

But people’ve been looking for protection, direction, & order, & some of them genuinely do not care at whose expense that will come, & do not get that it always comes for them in the end.
Partially explains the Senate Dems' cowardice, the public is apparently very much enjoying fascism at the moment. bsky.app/profile/atru...

The American Federation of Government Employees, which represents 800,000+ federal and D.C. workers (i.e. people directly impacted by a government shutdown), is urging senators to vote no on the House GOP's CR.

In other words, AFGE is saying a government shutdown is less bad than this GOP bill.
