Help me not be poor: $hygelac
And the lips are off. And he's less expressive. Donald Trump talks with his hands a lot. Here, his hands are nowhere to be seen. Also his speech is less expressive. The vowel sounds are more centralized that feels normal

It’s been a while since I’ve been on. This administration and the recent news have really been trying my patience. I’m trying to hold to my principles even in the face of people who may not deserve it or extend me the same courtesy. It’s hand

Charlie Kirk is as much a victim of the NRA and their resistance to sensible gun laws as is any victim of gun violence. We cannot suspend our ethical philosophies even toward people whom we consider our adversaries. The flames of political violence of any form must be quenched

When news media incentivizes rage and guns are as accessible as they are here, it's like setting up the powder-keg and handing someone a match. Blood is blood. When will politicians stop allowing ourselves to be victims of their own stupidity and myopia and instead work to resolve this crisis?

I have seen countless school shootings in my lifetime. How many dead children is too many? When does the bloodguilt of children become too heavy to lift from one's shoulders? When will we stop accepting that gun violence is normal?

But I can mourn that he permanently lost any opportunity to better himself. His comments about gun violence have been posted to death, as have GOP talking points regarding gun control. It's exhausting. Christian kids were murdered in a church. Today, kids in Denver were murdered in school.

He no longer has the opportunity to do teshuva. I cannot mourn the man. He would not have cared if my religious rights or the rights of my family members were stripped away. In fact, he would have encouraged it, as several of my family members are members of the LGBTQ+ community.

He fomented political violence and ended a victim of it. While I find it hard to feel sympathy for a man who spread hate, his children are now fatherless and his wife is a widow. That is nothing to celebrate. So I mourn who he could have been. He no longer has the opportunity for introspection.

I've thought a lot about freedom of speech. Freedom of speech is not freedom from consequence. And the paradox of tolerance still applies. I don't think Charlie's views have any place in civilized society, nor should he have ever had a platform to spread his beliefs.

I've seen it said that if you don't want people celebrating your death, don't live in a manner which will lead to people celebrating your death. While I agree with that in principle, if I can justify withholding empathy from people I dislike, I can justify it for anyone. I can't cross that line.

While he was alive, he gleefully attacked, mocked, and belittled people. He fomented fascism and misogyny. And I can’t help but feel sad that he wasted his one and only life being hateful until his violent end, when at any moment he could have turned around.

We can never know who Charlie could have been tomorrow. I think it’s always possible for people to right their wrongs and change for the better. That doesn’t mean the people he’s hurt are obliged to forgive him if he asks. Or even help him on his potential journey of self-reflection.

I think in the Beit Yosef, Karo calls it "minhag shtut" - foolish custom.

But look at the word מנהג — it's Gehinnom backwards.

I don't know about the Orthodox movement, but Conservative/Masorti Judaism has ruled that all wine is kosher (the teshuva is quite long, but that's the conclusion). One should ideally use mevushal wine for kiddush. So if it's a halakhic concern, any Canadian wine should be fine.
