Update on my pixel art guide for beginners:

Transferred all the information from Tumblr to a Google Doc, so anyone who doesn't have a Tumblr account can now read through the whole thing!

If you consider, as Gareth Watkins laid out so wonderfully last month, that AI, which is "embarrassing, destructive, and looks like shit" and as a result is "the new aesthetics of fascism", Altman and OpenAI's singling out of Studio Ghibli starts to make more sense. Especially when figures like Altman are being increasingly described as "technofascists". This isn't another laugh, another coy attempt at circumventing someone's rights to their creations; the way this has been pitched and sold is a direct attack, a flex revelling in the fact creators have so far proven largely powerless to stop these vultures from looting the history of human creation wholesale. So yeah, it sucks! Which is why people need to stop sharing that shit. If you accidentally fell into it via a chat or a message from a friend or whatever, and made an image because you thought it was cute, cut it out. If you're trying to dunk on the practice by linking to articles or examples that showcase the work, inadvertently flooding people's timelines with examples of this ghoulish, stolen work, stop. Nobody wants to see that shit. Nobody needs to see it.

There are no words to describe the inhumanity of the times you and I are sharing.
Passage from Hossam Shabat: When I arrived on the scene, I wasn’t ready for the horror before my eyes. The streets were filled with the dead. Under every stone lay a martyr. Dozens were crying for help from underneath the rubble of their homes but there was no one to respond. Screams filled the air while everyone stood helpless. My tears didn’t stop. The scenes were more than any human being could bear. The ambulances were filled with corpses, their bodies and limbs piled on top and intertwined with one another. We could no longer distinguish between children and men, between the injured and the dead. At Al-Andalus hospital the scene was even more painful. The hospital was filled with martyrs. Mothers bid silent farewells to their children. Medical staff worked in horrific conditions, trying to treat the injured with only the most basic means available. It was an impossible situation with massive numbers of dead and wounded being brought in at a terrifying rate. Israel’s aggression continues. Massacre after massacre, leaving only the screams of mothers in its wake and the dreams of children that have turned to ash. There is no justification for this. Everything is being crushed: the lives of innocent people, their dignity, and their hopes for a better future.

Governor Newsom, your recent conversation regarding transgender people with Charlie Kirk was appalling, unforgivable, morally degrading, and utterly reprehensible. Added to that, it will not win you one single vote in any future election you may entertain. Transgender people are among the most attacked and vulnerable populations in this country. They have family and friends, like myself, who place their safety, dignity, and medical care in the highest priority. You spit in their faces for some deluded, imaginary political points. People who want the worst for trans citizens will vote Republican, no matter what you say or low you degrade yourself or your office by saying you agree. Whether you privately agree or not is irrelevant. These are human beings with dignity. They are taxpayers. They are Californians. Don't you ever step foot at a Pride event again until you publicly and permanently reverse your so-called opinion. Until then, take your fake, Cheshire Cat grin out of our faces. Have a revolting day.

A protest was organized by @ktg48.bsky.social. When we showed up—less than a week after the incident—the spa was CLOSED “for plumbing issues.” They had a trans INCLUSIVE policy posted on the door. I was fighting fascism with the power of love and kindness and just really getting my ass handed to me. A total bloodbath. The referee would have stepped in by now but they had knocked him out with a steel chair. The only others watching were either fascists themselves or the people trying to fight fascism with the power of love and kindness and they weren’t having a great go of it either. I kept trying to explain in between haymakers that we were better than this and on top of that it wasn’t likely to be ruled on favorably as far as the courts. None of it helped. I was on my knees now bleeding profusely from the mouth and nose. It spilled out of me onto the snow in a pattern that if you sort of squinted at it just so from the right vantage looked like a heart. See that I pointed. Look how beautiful the world can be I tried to say through my broken teeth. Alright well now he was pulling out a gun. I didn’t think we were allowed do that.
