8/17 Using their mouthparts and mandibles, workers consistently made holes in multiple plant species. Each hole took a few seconds, but bees didn’t seem to be collecting tissue or getting anything from the leaf.

In the spirit of the day, I present the Australian Brushturkey (Alectura lathami)
These are remarkable birds that nest in gigantic compost piles that the male builds and guards. The generated heat from decay incubates the eggs, and he maintains the temp by adding or removing material.

Black-spotted Rock Skipper (Staurois guttatus) is a foot flagging frog. Found alongside fast flowing streams. If you live beside a waterfall it’s hard to make yourself heard. Instead of croaking this guy gives a wave with its back feet to act as a flag to a potential mate.

The water was still enough to see an incredible wave extend in front the beaver’s head. I’ve seen beaver many times but never in such still water and at such a low angle to capture just how far the wave trough is in front of the beaver. #nevada #photography #WildlifePhotography #truckee
