Sending so much love to my trans family & friends on this Trans Day of Visibility! My life is better with you in it. This world is better with you in it. Transness is not just okay, it’s a beautiful facet of human existence and experience. It has always existed! Postcard from Rommy Torrico (.com) ❤️🏳️‍⚧️

When people say 'politics is too divisive now,' what they really mean is 'I was more comfortable when certain groups suffered quietly.'

In these contemporary stories, the supposed divisions between humans and nature blur and we are far from alone in our sentience.

This was such a satisfying project, and one in which I realized for the first time how much my whole life had been spent in a manscape, in places where almost everything was named after men.
#WomensHistoryMonth: The City of Women Map is a fascinating visualization of women’s history and urban transportation. Created by Molly Roy, Rebecca Solnit, and Joshua Jelly-Schapiro, the map renames subway stops after notable women with links to that area, offering an entirely new way to view #NYC.

This joint interview between Atlantic staff members is thoughtful and interesting, and gives me hope. It's all great, but my link should go to 14:28 when Jeffrey Goldberg asks, "When will we know we're in a Constitutional crisis?"

Adam Serwer gives a pretty epic response:

I'm also going to add to make sure to gather with others socially doing fun stuff too. You enjoying your life and having fun publicly is also resistance that should be included.

MY TIME IS HERE!

IFAKs are wonderful bc they are HIGHLY customizable. If you’re not used to carrying a jump bag (pictured below) which is what I carry and fully stocked weighs between 20-40 lbs (shut up water is heavy) then I have great alternatives.

Cal is asleep on the couch so sweetly, all rolled up like a cinnamon bun. I came over for a photo and Finn noticed I was giving affection to another creature (alert as always to my traitorous ways, lol). He hopped and I caught the moment he gave Cal a lick on the cheek.

It's not perfect -- as of 2021, there was still "no way for trans people in the country to obtain legal documentation which reflects their affirmed gender" -- but it's movement!

Looked up “renaissance paints” and was wildly confused for several seconds until I realized I’d actually looked up, “renaissance pants”.

Felt the pull of the river today, went out for a chilly and lovely short ride. Met some birb friends.

Usually the river is full of ducks, but today it was all geese, all the time! They were taking turns falling into the current, getting swept quickly downriver, then paddling back to their buddies.

My quilt about women’s reproductive rights has been banned from all American Quilters Society shows this year. It’s been part of a traveling show with SAQA. My artist statement is too long for here. It’s on my website: laurashaw.net/quilts#/your-mother

He’s on my cowl now. The one I hand knit, and set down on the table when I walked in the door, it never occurring to me that he’d set his allergenic little self down on it, lol. He doesn’t even fit! It’s supposed to be, IF YOU FITS, YOU SITS. I’ve never heard, IF YOU KINDA FITS, YOU KINDA

Reading anything from this new administration all I hear running in the back of my head is They Might Be Giants:

They might be fake, they might be lies
They might be big big fake fake lies

The "first they came..." poem gets quoted and quoted and quoted and quoted and you know what, we do in fact know who they're coming for first, right now, and that is trans people, and the answer needs to be "absolutely the fuck not, you motherfuckers," full stop.
