Messy process photos + the occasional finished quilt
When you accidentally dress like your quilt and then take a (bad) snapshot off your computer using photo booth because you’re too lazy to set up the tripod.

Going to the Houston International Quilt Festival in October! I didn’t think it would get in because it’s been turned down 3x before from other shows. Just goes to show ya. You never know.

Seeing this level of embroidery artistry is tempting me to try it someday.
More progress. This is a great example of when someone sends me an extremely clear and detailed reference photo. I can get so much more detailed in the piece? 🪡

Hey, I wrote a post over on Substack full of studio tips to make quilting easier on the body and Nancy had this most excellent set up to share: bonus is seeing the Felon in Chief’s 34 indictments being read out by Alvin Bragg. Sweet memories.

Rainy Saturday studio vibes.
I got burned out yesterday on all the horrors. Need some time just making stuff.

Hey! I’ve decided to start a Substack . .

It’s free of course (for now 🙃) Just a place where I can write more detailed accounts of what it’s like making art in a world increasingly hostile to artists. So if you’re interested, head on over and give it a subscribe

How do you know when it’s done?

Untrimmed, unbound, but quilted

I’m doomscrolling but is it really? I mean the doom is real. So wouldn’t it be more accurate to say I’m keeping informed?

Here’s a shot of my sewing room, where I go to escape.

Threw my back out during a zoom exercise class this morning but I’m still gonna table-baste this quilt. ‘Pushing through’ is the theme of my life right now. #undeterred #neverthelessshepersisted

I’m on a podcast talking about my censored quilt and women’s reproductive rights. Give it a listen on your favorite podcast app!

Never thought I’d be such a fan of @lizcheney.bsky.social but times like these make strange alliances. Liz, please start a third SANE party. I’ll join it.
Start here with Ronald Reagan: “Perhaps you and I have lived too long with this miracle to properly be appreciative. Freedom is a fragile thing and it's never more than one generation away from extinction.

I stand with Ukraine. Zelensky was the only leader in that room.

I made this quilt three years ago, when the invasion started. I’m ashamed to be an American now.

Kicking some ass! Finally. Someone speaking up.
It took the Nazis one month, three weeks, two days, eight hours, and 40 minutes to dismantle a constitutional republic.

When the fire starts to burn, every good person better be ready to man a post with a bucket of water if you want to stop it from raging out of control.

Seriously, creative folks: Don't be afraid to let people know your stuff is out there for them, or worry that "now is not the time for that." People are stressed and freaked out and looking for the things that will give them a moment of rest and joy. It is EXACTLY the time for what we do. Tell them.

Thank you for covering this! As an artist working in a medium that’s often considered ‘craft’ it feels so good to know the art world has our backs.
The American Quilter’s Society allegedly refused to show two quilts in an exhibition after claiming they could be controversial. One work could be interpreted as depicting female anatomy, the other references abortion.
Is Female Anatomy Too "Controversial" for the American Quilter's Society?
The organization is also accused of trying to remove an abstract quilt referencing abortion access from a traveling exhibition, according to the artists.

A gay guy, a Black man, and a woman walk into a flight deck— that’s not the beginning of a joke, but just a regular day at work! There was so much DEI on this plane that we could hardly get in the air. Luckily my limp wrists were able to wrestle the heavy jet back to the ground 💅🏼

Woo hoo!! Great news! The SAQA board voted unanimously to pull the entire show out of AQS (see previous post for details)

And the International Quilt Museum has acquired my quilt for their permanent collection!

We all could use some good news. Thank you everyone for making your voices heard!
