The war on science in the US is already having an effect on private sector research like AlphaFold. Bears repeating but the private sector builds on top of things created by academic research for the public good. This hurts everyone.

It is tough to evaluate things when:
* snake oil salesman gonna sell snake oil
* reading “LLMS can’t do X” while an LLM is doing X in the other window
* My setup seems fine
* I try other setups and they’re all terrible
* they are clearly getting better
* this doesn’t mean they always will
