And good riddance!
Yes!

Police and Crime Commissioners are to be abolished at the end of their current term in 2028.

Some regional mayors already have taken on these powers and more will now take on these roles. If an area doesn't have a mayor yet, the local councils will take on the role.

Truly remarkable: Poland used to be a climate laggard.

Today, wind and solar are increasingly replacing coal in the Polish electricity mix with almost 30% of all electricity generated to date this year from wind and solar.

In 2000 coal provided 95% of Polish electricity.

Today it is at 51%.

Nice 🚲 around countryside. Large mixed flock of Greenfinches, Chaffinches & Linnets alongside many Redwings & a few Fieldfares near Horne’s Green. Rooks very noisy and active everywhere. #essexbirding

The Talatan Solar Park in China is absurdly huge — stretching across 600 km² of the Tibetan Plateau (about 7× Manhattan’s size) and generating around 17 GW of power.

It’s so big you can see it from space — a shimmering sea of panels.

Yes, unemployment was 4.2% & is now 5%. But that is not the full picture.

The data before Labour came to power had employment at 74.6% & it's now at 75%.

In terms of people it was 33.489m. It's now 34.192m.

That is 703k more people in work.

How can that be? Because there is a 3rd group.

NEW: Global fossil fuel use will peak before 2030 – unless 'stated policies' are abandoned

Contra some terrible news coverage, IEA World Energy Outlook shows coal near peak, oil peaking by 2030 & gas by 2035 (see chart)

What's going on? 🧵 + cool charts

Contrary to some media reports, heat pumps aren’t new tech — they’ve been around for 100+ years!

✅ First built in 1856 by Peter von Rittinger
✅ Zurich City Hall used one from 1938–2001
✅ UK’s first in 1945 (Norwich)
✅ ~200 million in use worldwide today

We're ALSO in the Age of Renewables:

ALL electricity demand growth to 2035 - all the AI, air conditioning, manufacturing, everything - is meet with rising renewables generation in aggregate.

Therefore, fossil electricity generation is lower in 2035 than today.

Electricity demand grows SEVEN times as fast as the rest of final energy demand: +2.9%/year compared to 0.4%/year to 2035 in STEPS.

The big story is NOT whether coal, oil or gas fall or rise by 0.XX% per year. It's solar and wind:

Annual growth 2024 to 2035 (STEPS):
- Solar +14% 🤯
- Wind +10% 🤯
- Oil -0.1% (total energy, not just elec)
- Gas +1.0%
- Coal -2.0%

But really the story is renewables and electrification.

We are doing all the right things today already.

Progress is faster than the IEA shows.

Let's not get distracted.
