In 99% of cases the death of a person is a tragedy. People are generally more complicated than we give them credit and most people are a mix of good and bad.

But not Dick Cheney. Rest in piss you evil bag of shit.

Pumpkin is back for those that celebrate.

This is where I remind you that

1. If you're not a pumpkin or pumpkin spice lover that's OK. There's no Pumpkin Mafia who will force you

2. Let ppl enjoy things! It literally doesn't hurt you if I eat 3 pumpkin donuts. Mind yo biz!

I actually think one of the most American lessons you could learn in school is that your neighbors come from all races & religions, speak different languages, have families that may look different from yours, and that's what makes us great. I'd make Cultural Studies a requirement over Algebra II.

Today is the National Park Service’s birthday! 🥳🏞️

You know what would be a great birthday gift? Not firing staff or cutting funds from the agency responsible for keeping our public lands pristine and accessible!

I’m sick & tired of being sick & tired.

No one prepares you for the unrelenting monotony of chronic illness.

For the lack of breaks. For the suffering. For the people who leave you behind.

For the bone crushing fatigue that no one other than fellow disabled people will ever understand.

I got a kudos last week on a fic I wrote almost 20 years ago, still posted on a site I haven’t logged into in 10+ years, in a fandom I haven’t been active in for 10+ years, and it still made me kick my feet and giggle.

“I asked Grok.” “I asked Chat.” I didn’t ask anyone because I grew up without screens and reading encyclopedias was our sole source of entertainment. Now I’m a living compendium of useless knowledge and for the next twenty minutes we are going on an adventure of learning, Brian.

My conspiracy theory is that the pivot away from text based social media to video was encouraged in order to make it easier to push disinformation on people and make it harder to absorb nuanced information.

I’ve done this a few dozen times in my life and have never and will never get it on the first try.
Had my eyes tested this morning. The part where they puff a bit of air into your eyes is like being hunted for sport.

People think I'm kidding when I say there is a fascist agenda behind the promotion of AI. These devices are designed to kill literacy. We grew up in one of those rare periods of history where most people could read, and those who can read are harder to control.

I like the permanence of books. Everything is so transitory; friends, family, houses where you use to live-- but you can pick up a book you read 45 years ago and it hasn't changed.

Remember.
If you befriend your local librarian, treat them with kindness, and maybe bribe them with a little whiskey, they might invite you in to the secret library within the library.
That's where they keep the good stuff.

There's a great moment in Doctor Who where Donna asks, “Doctor, what's going on?” and the Doctor replies, “I don't know! Isn't that brilliant? I love not knowing!” because they’re about to learn something new, and that's the kind of spirit we need to have towards the universe.

HUGE NEWS.

The judge in the case where 21 state attorneys generals sued the Trump administration over dismantling the IMLS just issued an injunction in favor of the plaintiffs. This is good news & the judge further indicates that the plaintiffs have a STRONG case here.

The Latest from the Institute of Museum and Library Services
A temporary restraining order halts further dismantling of the only federal agency for libraries, but the 2026 federal budget calls for eliminating the IMLS completely.
