We just crossed a bright red line. The President is delusional and his cabinet is dangerous.

There used to be a sort of social contract that the PMC classes had with red states that has been completely ripped apart and I honestly don't know how that's going to feed into housing market growth and corporate relocations.

🧵 Authoritarianism, Democratization, and Coalition Politics.

The consensus around here is, more or less, that the United States is currently a consolidating authoritarian regime controlled by a mix of reactionary populists and fascists.

Democrats spend far too much time thinking and talking about how to attack Trump & his party.

No one attack ever works in politics. What does work is a commitment to sustained aggression. Attack, attack, attack.

How Newsom is attacking is much less important than the fact that he is attacking.

Everything's on the table.

Republicans are using every method they can, whether it's cheating or breaking the law.

We've got to do everything we can to stand up and fight back — we're not sitting around and complaining from the sidelines when we have the ability to stop them.
@govpritzker.illinois.gov: "Democrats can't live by the old rules... We've got to put everything on the table... Governors across the country who have the ability (maybe it's the ones where we've got trifectas) we've got to do everything we can to stand up to what Trump and Abbott are trying to do."

Greg Abbott is throwing a tantrum so extreme, he’s now threatening to unilaterally remove nearly every Texas Democrat from office.

But Rep Greg Casar isn’t backing down. He’s calling us to the streets.

Join him TONIGHT at 5:30pm outside the governor’s mansion.

/9 My question is: in the face of such open, contemptuous lawlessness and corruption, why is anyone offering any presumption of good faith, of regularity, of decency? Why does anyone think these people are entitled to the benefits of the rule of law they scorn?

/7 This administration, from top to bottom, is ABSOLUTELY capable of getting Maxwell to clear Trump and implicate Trump’s political enemies in exchange for some commutation or pardon of her sentence. If you say otherwise you’re a liar or a fool.

If you’re feeling uneasy, it’s probably because we now know we live in a country built on the blackmail of a dead pedophile who is Too Big to Fail, so Congress has to go home for a couple of months to figure out how talk about it without defenestrating the president and collapsing the economy.

The governing party of the United States is shutting down the federal government to cover-up evidence the president sexually abused children so he can continue trying to implement dictatorship.

That's just a true statement about the world!

Alright- thread about the Texas flood and emergency communications.

Let me start by being very clear- there is a lot of finger pointing over who is at fault here. The answer is everyone- from the cuts to the NWS by DOGE, to the local gov’t not having installed sirens, etc

Republicans say they’re against a “redistribution of wealth” —but everything is a redistribution of wealth. The only Q is in what direction.

They send it from the lower/middle class to the top. For decades.

They hide it with “trickle down” snake oil, but this is who they are.

Before the election, I warned that there is no safe haven under authoritarianism.

If they can ship Kilmar Abrego Garcia to a foreign prison—accused of no crime, with no trial—they can do it to anyone.

Americans of conscience must stand against this now.

Reminders:

"Concentration camps" aren't the same as "extermination camps." Both were/are horrific.

Most Nazi camps were *outside Germany*, away from the eyes of German citizens.

Those trains? Were to, uh, deport the category of people whose lives were deemed unimportant.

Never again is now.

I got to talk to The Bulwark about Russell Vought, a key ideologue of the “post-constitutional” Right.

His trajectory is emblematic of a broader radicalization on the Right: They believe “conservatism” is no longer enough - and desire “counter-revolution” instead.

I suspect that some annoyed pundits are insistent in claiming Bluesky is a progressive bubble not because, as they believe, it’s hyper-partisan, but because for them, subconsciously, the remarkably civil tone of the platform feels coded as progressive. And that says quite a lot about their outlook.
