I've been a defence hawk since the 90s, and I've been saying for years that we need to be able to assert sovereignty over the Northwest Passage, for its navigation and the o&g in the North. Canada + Greenland are in the way of US control over it, we need to play catch up for 40yrs of defence cuts.

The CF currently has zero anti-UAV capability anywhere. We are severely behind in all the capabilities the next war will be fought with.
We are almost completely surrounded by enemy states.

All the comments here are right on the mark. Given the current global situation, with the US, Russia, and China on a near world war footing, Canada needs more than ever to strengthen our defences. The US is completely unreliable and will jump at the chance to divide up the Arctic with his pals.
