I think we are great risk of a future where unregulated use of tech turns America’s educational system into something even more segregated and classist than it is today - poor kids get largely automated “education” and surveillance discipline, rich kids get gentle low-tech instruction from humans.
I went to a private Waldorf high school in the 2000s that was filled with the children of tech professionals - who explicitly wanted a lower-tech education for them.
Many tech execs believe in careful exposure to tech for their kids, while also thinking AI teaching is fine for the great unwashed.

That any person finds utility in an AI system that normalizes their speech and presents them as "respectable" for the purposes of gaining access to resources and society is not praise for AI, but a condemnation of society.

🚨UPDATE: Rümeysa Öztürk has now suffered three separate asthma attacks while in DHS custody.
She has not received her required asthma medications—a violation of her fundamental right to medical care.
This is cruelty, it is neglect, and it is a damning moral and legal failure.

About this Poem
“I rarely felt safe as a child. The closest I’ve felt to safety was hanging with my cousins or being by my older sisters’ side[s]. Even then, I felt danger huffing about, stalking me. As a child whose parents suffered premature deaths due to America’s inadequate healthcare and mental health systems, I’m often thinking about children and how they are wrestled down by adult failures. The world’s cruelty shows itself to children through adults, even before they learn words like war, ceasefire, and later, genocide. I believe we owe children a world that loves them, and we must struggle for it at any cost.”

Sixty-some years ago, Eisenhower transformed higher education because he viewed a science education gap as the single greatest threat to national security.
