I saw this post this morning and have been haunted by it all day. I have sent so many people the wiki for mushroom ketchup today. I may never be the same
The word "tomato" in "tomato ketchup" is doing a bit of work, as there are other forms of ketchup, although these have more niche uses and markets.

Some sad personal news. I was going to host a party this weekend with the entire crew of the ill-fated HMS Terror. Unfortunately they just telegraphed me that my house is too cold for them so they'll be staying on the arctic ice. Thats what they prefer, given how cold my house is. Tuunbaq is a maybe

Completely agree and I will add--most of the time these images are incredibly distracting. The last time I saw a speaker include AI imagery in their presentation, I got completely sidetracked trying to figure out what the garbled text and imagery was supposed to be
I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

Every prompt to chatbot software is “generate me some text.” If it generated you some text, it performed its function correctly. It never lies, it never wants anything, it’s text generating software that generates text.
Not wanting to disappoint you so much that it lies is the last quality I want in a computer.

Sure, Nike has awful labor practices in both its offices and manufacturing facilities, lobbied to change state law so it wouldn't have to pay more taxes, and funded an anti-transit PAC, but at least its profits enrich a complete dunce

the fact that amtrak cascades hit another ridership record in FY25 despite shutting down for two weeks and spending half the year running smaller trains with higher prices bc of the horizon recall is another sign that the demand for rail in the pnw is genuinely insatiable
