NOT OPTIONAL.

Haskell Indian Nations University had to let go of about 50 staff, including instructors. Some students were left without teachers for classes in the middle of spring session.

This is enraging.
The termination of 850 Indian Health Service physicians, nurses, and dentists will have a grave impact on access to care for millions of Native Americans.

Upholding our treaty obligations is not optional.

With Nigel Farage and Reform UK again calling for the UK to leave the European Convention on Human Rights here is a reminder of why joining Russia and Belarus as the only European countries outside the ECHR is a very very very bad idea

🚨Government’s own shocking data shows a staggering 97% of new patients who try to get an NHS dental appointment fail to get one

People are forced to pull out their own teeth with pliers - it’s not Victorian it’s medieval. We cannot allow this to become normalized

‘90 people have taken their own lives already. How many more do they want?’ The Labour peer taking on the scandal of ‘99-year’ sentences
Indeterminate sentences were scrapped in 2012 – but thousands of prisoners are still serving them, often for petty crimes, with no hope of release. Could there now be hope of resentencing?

Really interesting article.
Hard to overstate how much I learned from this short interview, but here's one snippet that stopped me in my tracks: "The no-college to any-college ratio in prison admissions rose from around 6 to 1 in the early 1980s to more than 22 to 1 for Black Americans and 28 to 1 for White Americans by 2015."
Today, Alex Gourevitch interviews Christopher Muller about the complex relationship between labor exploitation and incarceration, rising class inequality in prison admission rates, and why we should be weary of functionalist explanations for incarceration.
