As days shorten and there is less inclination to travel far, one perhaps looks for walks closer to home such as this round Eccup Reservoir on the Leeds outskirts. A straightforward route, along clear tracks, reservoir and countryside. See www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/West...

A fascinating site.
Mention us ( @megalithic.bsky.social ) in your ancient site photo posts for a retweet/post if we like them - and we mostly do! #StandingStoneSunday (and non standing stone things too - anything older than about 1000AD/CE, or 'pre-contact' in the Americas)

Today is St Clement's Day, the patron saint of blacksmiths and metal workers.

At Finch Foundry in Devon, blacksmiths will gather to show their skills and complete in the annual snail race. Not what you might immediately think of, the race is to create an iron snail sculpture!

This is an ideal walk for anyone wanting something of respectable length but almost wholly flat, as it follows well defined bridle paths and course of old railway tracks. It starts at Barwick-in-Elmet in #WestYorkshire. See www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/West...

The name 'Aysgarth' is from Old Norse, brought by Viking settlers to the area. It means 'open space in the oak trees'. The falls have attracted famous figures for over 200 years, including Wordsworth, J.M.W. Turner, and Ruskin.

This walk is in the greenest area of #Lanzarote and takes you via one amazing viewpoint, Mirador Montaña Ganda to another at El Bosquecillo, often referred to as Lanzarote’s only forest. It then follows a green valley back to the start in Haria. See www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/Lanz...

Evidently the waste by the River Cherwell is roughly 10 meters high, 15 meters wide & 60 meters long. Illegal dumping must have been going on for some time. Those responsible should be found & ‘benefit’ from the highest punishment available and EA should do its job! Please sign.

This North #Yorkshire is an easy for route finding with lack of gradient and the fact that the majority of it takes place on broad well maintained tracks, so may be less muddy after the rain. It’s a walk of pleasant rolling countryside and woodland. See www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/Nort...
