The name 'Aysgarth' is from Old Norse, brought by Viking settlers to the area. It means 'open space in the oak trees'. The falls have attracted famous figures for over 200 years, including Wordsworth, J.M.W. Turner, and Ruskin.

On Waterfall Wednesday we're sharing this view of Thornton Force along the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail. The River Twiss drops 14 metres off a cliff of limestone that was laid down over 350 million years ago.

The Waterside Viaduct in the Lune Valley was built between 1857 & 1861 for the Ingleton Branch Line of the London & North Western Railway. It's Grade II listed and features a striking cast-iron arch flanked by sandstone arches.

Cotter Force is a beautiful and relatively secluded waterfall in the Upper Wensleydale, just a couple of miles outside of Hawes. It is one of the most accessible waterfalls in the Dales.

Angram is a tiny hamlet in Upper Swaledale, between the villages of Muker and Keld. The surrounding environment is rich: the wet grasslands at Angram Bottoms support a diverse flora including orchids, sedges and marsh plants and is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
