Watch Sabaton’s New Epic Video For “A Tiger Among Dragons”
For “A Tiger Among Dragons,” SABATON drew upon inspiration for the song based on Lü Bu, known as the “Flying General,” one of the fiercest warriors in ancient China. During the chaos of the late Han Dynasty, he rose to legendary status with unmatched strength, insane skill with his halberd Sky Piercer and his lightning-fast horse, Red Hare. His duel at Hulao Pass, where he took on the best fighters of the era, sealed his place as a true legend.

One of the things that gets lost in translation is how rhythmic & fun to read the prose of the original Journey to the West is.
Best way I can describe it is "Imagine if Dragonball was Written instead of Drawn"

Esp. when for most of its existence, this is how story would've actually been read:

This good article covers 20c ninja, but older history...

Kabuki Ninja summons come from the Chinese game you've played, rock paper scissors (Snake Toad Slug), some Kabuki ninja have Chinese fathers teach em. Jiraiya's from a Song dynasty robs-assholes-helps-poor Thief that predates Robin Hood.

The Lychee Road is another banger from the Chinese satirical comedy genre.
Set in the Tang dynasty, a small time official is assigned the impossible task of transporting lychee from the edge of China to the capital. It angrily condemns bureaucracy, making me laugh from frustration.

High Mountains Flowing Water (高山流水) wasn’t just music. It was soul recognition. When Bo Ya played the qin, only Zhong Ziqi could truly hear the peaks and rivers in each note. After Ziqi’s death, Bo Ya broke his instrument in grief, vowing never to play again. Their story gave rise to 1/2

A recurring motif born of the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history, the Seven Sages of the bamboo grove reappears across East Asia. Avoiding the trivialities of politics and the upheaval of dynastic collapse, Daoist-driven poetry and discussion: an escape. #MythologyMonday
