🎵If you're coughing and you know it, wear a mask 👏👏
At this point, I shouldn't even have to ask 👏👏
You may think that it's outrageous
But you really are contagious
If you're coughing and you know it, wear a mask!👏👏🎵
You're not imagining it — lots of people are sick of late. Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, MetroHealth and Summa Health confirmed they have been seeing more respiratory illnesses amid an uptick in virus activity.

Half my career was spent doing lab research in support of this goal. To be privileged enough to see it reached is humbling. To be aware enough to know that this kind of success will be denied future researchers because of this administration is anguish.
If you were alive in the 1980s, this is among the most wonderful & truly incredible things you have ever witnessed in your lifetime.

I was so lucky to get to sing this song at #ASMicrobe2025 (courtesy of @asm.org), thanks to the generosity of Dr. Sheldon Campbell at @yalepathology.bsky.social. Learn about dengue, but don't contract it! #ClinMicro #PathSky #IDSky

“The infectivity of NB.1.8.1 was significantly higher (2·5-fold; p<0·0001) than that of LP.8.1. NB.1.8.1 binds more strongly to ACE2 than LP.8.1.5 … the increased fitness of NB.1.8.1 is due to its augmented infectivity rather than its increased immune evasion”.

DOGE is now reviewing every NIH grant that goes out, I reported last week.

That review is AI-driven and is screening for DEI, trans health, China, vaccine hesitancy, and the institutions to whom Trump has blocked funding, @hannahnatanson.bsky.social reports.

“The number of cavities and decayed teeth in American children and teens (ages 0–19) will increase by an estimated 7.5 percentage points over the first five years. That means there will be 25.4 million more rotten teeth in the mouths of children and teenagers.”
RFK Jr.’s fluoride ban would ruin 25 million kids’ teeth, cost $9.8 billion
The modeling estimates don’t account for other costs, like parents’ lost work.

Every time I see a case of severe malaria requiring IV artesunate I am reminded of how completely bonkers drug pricing in the US is. A treatment course anywhere else in the world is <100$ in the US it's $30,000. Pls take malaria prophylaxis if indicated for travel.🙏🏽

Unaffordable treatment for severe malaria highlights U.S. drug market pitfalls
It is shocking to think that U.S. citizens may receive better treatment for severe malaria at lower cost in a low-income country than they would at home.

Another joke for #PathSky:

A GI pathologist comes home looking super upset. Her husband asks her what's wrong, and she says "I'm dealing with a complicated a**hole situation at work."

"Wow. Did they hire someone horrible?" he asks.

"No," the GI pathologist says, "I meant that literally."
