If you are gutting healthcare and food assistance for millions of Americans, you are absolutely not “pro life.”

Notice how it’s always “the Bible must inform our laws!” until it comes to the verses about welcoming the immigrant, helping the poor, feeding the hungry, bringing healthcare to the sick, forgiving debts, not charging interest, caring for our planet, laying down our swords, or loving our neighbors.

I’m beyond excited to announce that #MakingBiblicalWomanhood has now reached 100,000 copies sold and received a Bronze Milestone Sales Achievement award from the Evangelical Christian Publishing Association. This is more than I ever imagined possible! Thank you for reading! @brazospress

If our Christianity causes kids to go hungry, the sick to go without healthcare, the stranger to be unwelcome, and the elderly on social security they paid into to be called a “parasite,” all while billionaires get richer, we’ve profoundly misunderstood the most basic elements of Jesus’ teachings.

Over the past four years, we watched the evangelical industrial complex kick in to high gear pumping out articles, sermons and books warning parents about the dangers of deconstruction while being completely silent or worse, complicit in letting this madman come back into power. This is why we left.

Dear American Christians,

The "persecution" you scream about has nothing to do with you being Christian. It's actually just accountability for how you discriminate against LGBTQ people, immigrants, women, other religions and other marginalized groups.

Sincerely,

A Christian for ALL human rights

Jesus: you cannot serve both God and mammon.

Christian nationalists: we choose mammon.

Trump is gutting Christian ministries that serve the poor . . . while MAGA Christians cheer.

And if you object to the human suffering they cause, then they accuse you of displaying "toxic empathy."

No, really: www.nytimes.com/2025/02/13/o...

It’s simple: When the most vulnerable feel more unsafe, we’re failing as neighbors and as a nation. Look at who’s frightened under this regime—that tells you everything you need to know about their policies.

A tale as old as time.

Power-hungry Christianity has been around about as long as Christianity.
as a medievalist, as a church historian, let me say that within the long history of Christianity, I cannot emphasize enough how actually normal this is.

this is Constantine, Charlemagne, Frederick Barbarossa, Louis IX, even Henry VIII!

this is still Christianity, as empire-hungry as it is.
“To say no to President Trump would be to say no to God.”

Meet televangelist Paula White, who Donald Trump just appointed to lead the White House ‘Faith Office.’

This is not normal.

Not that we need more evidence, but Russ Vought, the new head of the OMB, once wrote an op-Ed for Newsweek attacking our book Taking America Back for God.

He is committed to executing a Christian nationalist vision for the US, democracy and the Constitution because damned.

Thank you, AOC. 👇
Pin this, save it, we’ll need it.

“When a prison camp opens in your town…when a DREAMer is disappeared from your classroom…when the President destroys what’s left of the Constitution…They will all say they didn’t know this was coming. And I want the American people to know that they did.”

Bingo. Western evangelicals believe in an “America first!” mindset that is not found in scripture, but in American politics. If we only read the bible “at face value” and do not study its context/history, we view it through the lens of America instead of viewing American through the eyes of Jesus.
It shouldn’t surprise us when evangelicals have zero concern for international development aid being gutted when so much of their theology is colonized to the point that justice is secondary to their narrow view of “the gospel”.

Much work needs to be done on the justice discipleship front.

Christians who are upset about what Bishop Mariann Budde said have told on themselves. Showing mercy and compassion to the least of these is literally the teachings of Jesus.

They follow power not Christ. They preach nationalism and not the Gospel.

It’s an uncomfortable reality for some but none of the chaos and dehumanization we’re seeing today happens without white Protestant, catholic and evangelical Christians. That’s a data point, not an opinion.
